While Gene Chizik and the rest of his merry men are looking for jobs as of this posting, Trooper Taylor—a man who is currently under investigation by the NCAA—has been allowed to stay in order to “continue recruiting duties in an effort to hold Auburn’s current class of commitments together” (at least that’s according to Phillip Marshall of Auburn Undercover). Now, this baffles the mind because you would think the Tigers would be looking to just start all the way over—and since this isn’t the first time the NCAA’s nose has sniffed in Taylor’s direction, you’d figure he’d be one of the main ones to get the boot. That said, according to Marshall, there has yet to be any indication that Taylor’s tenure at Auburn would last beyond June; that’s when his contract is slated to come to an end. That said, with so many big names attached to Auburn’s current recruiting class—and so many of those prospects close with Taylor—it’s also tough not to see the tactic being employed on this one. Whoever the next coach happens to be, he would certainly do well to start with guys like Reuben Foster, Dee Liner, and Carl Lawson on defense—every one [...]
