The week started off exciting with an upset in the Pac12 as Washington beat the #8 ranked Stanford Cardinal (exactly, where’s the S?). Yet, that would be it for the entire weekend. No unranked or lower ranked team was beaten for the remainder of the slate, but there were a few close calls. Also, is Alabama’s defense that good or is it that nobody plays defense but them? This was the 2nd highest scoring game avg. since 1937!
Let’s start out West because they would complain we only talk about the East side of sports world! Oregon State survived a scary one to the Arizona Wildcats as they continued their great start. The Beavers gave up 403 yds. through the air to a team that scored 0 last week…ZERO against Oregon! Oregon State scored a td with 1:17 left to take the lead by 3 and ‘Zona’s Scott threw his 2nd interception of the night as the #18 Beavers survived on the road for the 2nd week in a row. Ofcourse, the strangest thing of the evening were the gold helmets worn by the home team…What was that all about?
Speaking of “what was that all about?”, how ridiculous was the field at Southern Miss? The #19th ranked Louisville Cardinals apparently forgot to pack their snorkel gear as it took a late score to pull out a 22-17 victory over a Golden Eagle team that was whopped last week by Western Kentucky.
Moving to the ridiculousness, I said yesterday in my On Paper, Upset Potential, Don’t Bother the game in Morgantown would be a shootout but my score prediction of 48-38 should have been for halftime! West Virginia and Baylor were tied at the half 35-35. The teams nearly equaled that in the 2nd half with final score of 70-63. What’s the sign of a good defensive coach? They make halftime adjustments…well Straitpinkie.com got a pic of the defensive coach of the Mountaineers.
