Kyuji Fujikawa, who played for the Hanshin Tigers in Japan the past 12 seasons, officially joined the Chicago Cubs on Friday, agreeing to a two-year, $9.5 million contract. The deal includes a signing bonus of $1 million and $4 million in salaries in 2013 and 2014, according to MLB.com. There also is a vesting option valued at $5.5 million or $6 million, which will be determined by the number of games finished. He had 220 saves with Hanshin, but the Cubs say he will be used a set-up man for closer Carlos Marmol. Fujikawa visited Chicago and Wrigley Field last month, and that apparently sold him on the Cubs. "From that day on, in my head it was, 'Cubs, Cubs, Cubs,' and that's how everything came through," Fujikawa said through an interpreter, MLB.com reported.
