The two teams who are leading the way in the Matt Garza sweepstakes have been identified. The Toronto Blue Jays and Texas Rangers are the front runners to land Garza, industry sources told ESPN Chicago's Bruce Levine. While the Blue Jays and Rangers are the front runners for Garza, the Red Sox, Indians and Giants have all shown 'strong' interest in the Cubs pitcher. Out of all those teams in that group, the Red Sox appear to be the least likely team to acquire Garza. The Rangers make sense for Garza, as they have a farm system to provide the Cubs with what they are looking for in return. The Cubs want top of the line prospects for Garza, as they value him highly, as well they should. Garza would immediately step in and assume a spot on top of their rotation, so a trade to the Rangers may be a good thing for both parties. The Blue Jays are an interesting fit, as they acquired Mark Buehrle and Josh Johnson in the offseason. The Blue Jays have a rotation that is filled with talent. When the Jays acquired Johnson and Buehrle, they absolutely gutted their farm system, as they went into win now mode. A trade for Garza for the Blue Jays could make their farm systems one of the worst in baseball. Before you ask, why don't the Blue Jays trade a major leaguer with experience for Garza, the Cubs don't want veterans. They want prospects to make their farm system deeper, but have that player be close to major-league ready. The team that makes the most sense for Garza right now is the Texas Rangers as they have everything the Cubs want. On top of that, the Rangers also have a spot ready for Garza to take over. A deal appears likely within the next week, so expect the rumors between Garza and the Rangers to heaten up. On the year, Garza is 5-1 with a 3.22 ERA and a 58/18 strikeout-to-walk ratio. The Garza situation is going to have a lot of twists and turns in it, but Garza likely will end up getting dealt, but his potential destination remains unknown. Chicago Cubs News and Notes: Matt Garza, Javier Beaz and more

This Cubs Matt Garza news and notes column is from TSB new contributor Jeremy Harris. In a gutsy performance, which could be his last as a Cub, starter Matt Garza tossed 6 2/3 innings, yielding ten hits and two walks, while striking out four. Report: Red Sox No Longer ‘Big Players’ for Cubs Pitcher Matt Garza

The chances of seeing Matt Garza in a Red Sox uniform are suddenly looking very slim. Garza, whom the Red Sox were reportedly in the running to acquire before the trade deadline, is now too expensive for Boston, an industry source told CSNNE.com’s Sean McAdam. According to McAdam, the Cubs are asking for two of the Red Sox’ top pitching prospects (from a group that includes Allen Webster...

Preview: Lynn goes for win No. 12 in Chicago

Matt Garza has been one of the hottest pitchers in baseball of late. The Chicago Cubs hope the right-hander can stymie the surging St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday night at Wrigley Field. St. Louis (56-35) defeated Chicago 3-2 on Friday to pick up its sixth win in seven games. The Cardinals, who had lost eight of 11 prior to this stretch, have prospered due to a pitching staff that...

Status Of Buchholz Will Impact Matt Garza Deal

Getty ImagesMultiple reports suggest that whether the Red Sox make a deal to get Matt Garza is highly dependent on how they see the immediate future of Clay Buchholz. If their ace right-hander continues to struggle with a bizarre neck/shoulder injury (he hasn't pitched since June 8th), then they will hotly pursue their former AL East pitching rival. Garza has been told in no...

All-Star Break Rumor Thread

Not that there will be too many over the break, most of the league takes a vacation along with the players, but Kaplan is spinning his wheels on a Matt Garza one. I'm hearing Garza will be traded by Sat. Cubs won't move him though until they get what they want. They won't panic out of fear of injury. An AL scout just told me that he thinks Garza is throwing so well that...

A trade being likely is of no surprise, the surprise was that the two sides were talking about a contract extension after two years of trade rumors. Now that that’s done it’s time to go back to the trade rumors. Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports...

Cubs Rumors: Rangers favorites to land Matt Garza

The Matt Garza trade winds are absolutely blowing. In a recent article I wrote on Garza, it said that Matt Garza likely would be traded over the all-star break. Recent reports from Cubs beat writers support that report from Buster Olney of ESPN. From John Arguello of Cubs Den: @Letsgocubs13 I think there's a pretty good chance a deal gets done within next few days...

The interest in Matt Garza has picked up and teams are fighting as hard as ever to get him. While teams may have to give up a lot in return to get him, it appears they are willing to give it up. The free agent to be has been the most coveted player on the open market this July and it appears that he finally will be traded. The teams interested in Matt Garza, according to Jim Bowden...

Cubs Rumors: Matt Garza told he'll 'likely' be traded

Recently there was a report suggesting that the Cubs were going to try to work out an extension with pitcher Matt Garza, but that now appears to be unlikely, according to CBS' Jon Heyman. He says that the talks haulted because of a 'major difference' in the AAV (average annual value) of a potential extension. Jon Heyman is however reporting that the Cubs have told...
