That sure is a lot of surplus income. After realizing this the Eagles have no choice but to be active this free agency period. They can actually abtain multiple young and talented free agent players. There isn't many moves they need to make that instantly make them a much improved team. Signing a tackle and moving Herremans back inside. Signing a safety and a corner (or just keep Nnamdi, but I would rather move him to safety or just move on from him) then draft a safety and corner. Sign a 3-4 defensive tackle to anchor the line. If they have a little extra then throw in a new tight end. All of this is capable with the money the Eagles have available compared to how cap strapped several other teams are right now. The key is this time for the Eagles to make wise choices. They don't need to get the big named players. They need to get the young and hungry players entering their prime. They have the cash and the opportunity. If they play it smart they could find themselves in a playoff hunt very soon.

  • I know the Eagles have a lot of money this year and I am hopeful they bring in a few free agents to fill their MANY needs but again they have to be careful because of Jackson's and McCoys contracts (and a few others). I was curious to see what their cap situation looks like next year so I threw the numbers together and if they went into next year with all their current contracts besides Vick's (this should be his last year) and Asomugha's they already are at 82 million and that would be with only about 30 players on the roster. I would guess they will figure out what they are doing on their way but it does seem that Roseman has allowed somewhat of a mess to buid up with the contract situation. Besides Jackson and McCoy (12.5 million and 9.7 million), Peters will be due about 9 million next year, Ryans gets close to 7 million, Trent Cole gets 6.6 million and Evan Mathis is due 6 million...all this is with me figuring that Maclin walks at the end of this year. I'm sure they will do a little more shuffling with some contracts before next year (they could cut Ryans next year without cap penalty if they find a replacement...they could renegotiate with Jackson, with Peters or possibly even convince Trent Cole that they need some of his money to better the team but that may be job suicide for him so I doubt he would do that). I would guess the Eagles will bring in an impact player or two that fills their needs but I wouldn't doubt you see many short term contracts with free agents that are willing (injury concerns?) so the Eagles don't find themselves in too big a bind going into next year. Trent Cole and Herremans contracts somewhat bother me. The Eagles didn't have to re-do their contracts and at roughly 30 they would have been better waiting to decide if they wanted to extend them in a year or two...now you look at Cole's fading play and Herreman's injury and think...what the hell were they thinking? Both are signed through 2016, Herremans will never be released without incurring dead money (although it obviously drops each year) and Cole gets a huge raise in 2015 (11 million) which tells me he won't be here past 2014 but the Eagles will be hit with 3.6 million in dead money counting against their cap. Seems like a waste in my opinion. Regardless of their contract situation I am hoping for a couple starters come Tuesday AND maybe even a couple potential starters or steady backups and let the Eagles worry about their cap situation next year. I'm not sure when the teams have to be at a certain percentage of the cap...it may start this year and build over the next couple before they need to be at the cap minimum but I'm not certain. Anybody know at what percentage teams need to be at this year?
  • good points...EasyEagles...but knowing coach Kelly, he wont give a rattle bang what fans think....
  • I'd like to see us bring a couple free agents that are in there late twenties for some much needed leadership. The names that come to mind are Goldson, Kruger, and Delanie Walker.
  • Kruger worse than Babin. Cant stop run and one dimnsional pass rusher.
  • Adrian Wilson, Dawan Landry, Chris Gamble, and Aaron Ross have all been released by their teams. Not saying any of these guys should be signed by the eagles but adding another 4 names to the FA pool of secondary players could bring down the price of the top tier guys due to the growing abundance of available options.
  • I wouldn't be surprised or mind Wilson coming here.
  • Reports have the Eagles interested in Golston, Winston, and Amendola. That's funny cause they cut him before.
  • Goldston and Winston would automatically fill much needed spots and signing Winston would shore up our starting offense. Amendola is interesting if he comes in though is Avant out?
  • Amendola would be better at getting separation than Avant. Avant is an all around good player, but I think the Eagles could improve at that position. He lacks speed and Chip Kelly loves speed.
  • yea that was my thinking as well. Avant to me though has the best hands in the nfl when he wants to it'd be a shame to lose him but I have been trying to figure out how he's gonna fit in a chip kelly style system
  • He doesn't fit. He could be a draft day trade.
