The Dallas Stars came back from the All-Star break with a vengeance. With their regular lineup largely reunited, they rolled to a 6-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks. This team used its time away from the rink to heal and gear up for the stretch run.A year ago Dallas staggered out of the break and went 1-8-1 in its first 10 games down the stretch. Since the Stars came out of this break in 10th place in the Western Conference, it couldn’t afford to follow that unhappy pattern. The Stars failed to score more than two goals in their last six games before the break. So Wednesday night’s offensive breakout was notable. Here were the highlights: Back after missing five games due to an appendectomy, Jamie Benn led the assault with a goal and two assists. Linemate Steve Ott had two assists. Their linemate Michael Ryder had a goal and two assists after failing to register a point in his previous six games. He had not scored a goal in his previous 10 games. Center Mike Ribeiro had an assist in hi...

Ducks' Cogliano nets rare natural hat trick

GLENDALE, Ariz. Andrew Cogliano wants to shoot more. With results like he had Tuesday against Phoenix, the temptation will be to shoot too much. The fifth-year Anaheim forward netted his first career hat trick in a six-minute, 51-second span of the second period to lift the red-hot Ducks to a 4-1 win over the Coyotes. The three goals came uninterrupted, giving him an NHL rarity...

Team-first Fistric thriving despite reduced role

It’s been a somewhat strange season for Mark Fistric. The hulking 6-foot-2, 233-pound defenseman has delivered the rugged, physical play that the Dallas Stars have requested of him fairly consistently when he’s gotten the chance, ...

Cam Gore: Sharks take shine away from Stars

The Sharks played another solid sixty minutes while convincingly beating their division rivals the Dallas Stars 5-2. If you watched the game and afterwards were thinking that’s the way they are supposed to play…your right. The Sharks were not flashy but efficient defensively, special teams were great even though a goal was scored against, and the Stars scoring chances...

Steve Palumbo: Ducks Lose To The Stars But All Is Not Lost

The Anaheim Ducks were kicked around by the Dallas Stars in their own building during Wednesday nights 6-2 loss at the Honda Center. The Ducks played perhaps one of their worst games in more than a month, but all is not lost. Jonas Hiller allowed five goals in taking the loss. Hiller had not surrendered more than two goals in his previous nine starts. Anaheim had its season...

Ducks Fly Together

This phrase can be used to describe the recent play of the Anaheim Ducks. While the team is 13th in the Western Conference, the Ducks certainly are not playing that way. In fact, they are playing like a club that deserves to be in one of the top eight spots. After getting off to an extremely slow start under both Randy Carlyle and new head coach Bruce Boudreau, the Ducks have found...

Wild-Stars Preview

Two weeks ago, the Dallas Stars suffered a disheartening loss in Minnesota as the Wild set a team record with three goals in less than a minute. A rematch at the American Airlines Center should give them a very good chance to avenge that defeat. The Stars look to win their 15th straight home game over Minnesota on Saturday night in a matchup of teams competing for one of the final...
