David Ortiz looks like he’s adopted some Shane Victorino walk-up music, ’cause he’s not worrying about a thing as the Red Sox prepare for their American League Division Series. Ortiz and the rest of the Sox were at Fenway Park on Wednesday to get some work in, including a simulated game. Ortiz wasn’t content to just practice his baseball skills, though. When Tom Caron and Rob Bradford took the field to get ready for a segment for NESN Sports Today, Ortiz showed he’s pretty good at videobombing, too. Ortiz had a little snack at the broadcast team’s expense, much to the enjoyment of Jamison Coyle and Leah Hextall as they went to open Wednesday’s show. Check it out on NESN Sports Today in the video above. Filed under: Boston Red Sox, Boston Red Sox Video, David Ortiz, Fenway Park, NESN Sports Today, NESN Video, Tom Caron, Top Stories, Video

John Lackey ‘Fired Up’ About Pitching Game 2, Has No Plans to Suppress Emotions on Mound

BOSTON — Most pitchers look to keep their emotions in check while on the mound. John Lackey is not most pitchers. Lackey, who is often animated while toeing the rubber, said Friday that he’ll continue to be the same pitcher he’s always been when he takes the mound for Game 2 of the ALDS on Saturday. The veteran has no plans to chill out with the stakes raised. “No, I’m...

Jon Lester Dazzles in Game 1 of ALDS, Looks Like Man on Mission After Playoff Layoff

BOSTON — Four years make the heart grow fonder — and the arm grown stronger, apparently. Jon Lester came out firing Friday in the first playoff game at Fenway Park since 2009. The veteran showed power, precision and poise while leading the Red Sox to a 12-2 victory over the Rays in Game 1 of the ALDS. “Obviously, getting to start Game 1 at Fenway Park is pretty exciting,...

Bobby Valentine Has Kind Words for Red Sox

I know, I know. Another Bobby V story. Not that anyone cares, but Valentine has had things looking up for him lately. The Sacred Heart University Athletic Director's football team is 5-0 and he has two film projects out, which I doubt any Red Sox fans would touch with a ten-foot pole. Good for you Bobby, but you know what would be better than all that right now? Being John Farrell...

Contract Crowdsourcing 2013-14: Jacoby Ellsbury

Free agency begins five days after the end of the World Series. As in other recent offseasons, FanGraphs is once again facilitating this offseason a contract-crowdsourcing project, the idea being to harness the wisdom of the crowds to the end of better understanding the 2013-14 free-agent market. Note that, this year, in addition to asking readers to estimate the years/dollars each...

Sox' Napoli ready to deal with 'stabbing' in his foot

Mike Napoli separated himself from the other Red Sox players taking fielding drills Tuesday. He was wearing sneakers. The Sox first baseman has been relegated to donning the footwear during practice sessions instead of spikes due to a lingering case of plantar fascitiiis. Because of the ailment Napoli not only has had to adjust what he wears on his feet (including special inserts...

Boston Red Sox, Tampa Bay Rays ALDS Preview

While it is only the divisional series, it’s still extremely fitting that the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays are set to meet up in the playoffs, isn’t it? After all these two division rivals met 19 times this season as they dueled for the number one spot in the American League East. But while the Red Sox did end up winning the season series, 12-7, this has the makings of a...

Red Sox’ Relentless Offense Delivers Knockout Blow in Game 1 After Major Miscue Backs Rays Into Corner

BOSTON — The Rays gave the Red Sox an inch. Boston took a mile. The Red Sox found themselves in a 2-0 hole Friday after Sean Rodriguez and Ben Zobrist smacked a pair of solo homers off Jon Lester. A strange play in the fourth inning opened the door for the Red Sox’ offense, though, and Boston kept its foot on the gas en route to a 12-2 blowout victory in Game 1 of the ALDS. Matt...

Contract Crowdsourcing 2013-14: Stephen Drew

Free agency begins five days after the end of the World Series. As in other recent offseasons, FanGraphs is once again facilitating this offseason a contract-crowdsourcing project, the idea being to harness the wisdom of the crowds to the end of better understanding the 2013-14 free-agent market. Red Sox Must Win Lester's Game 1 With Series MVP Salty to Take Series

Great Fan-alysis from NY Refugee Ken Lang - looking at what has to happen to beat the Rays in a short series and who the MVP will be. It’s never been easy to be a Red Sox fan in Yankees country which is part of what has made this past year so awesome. However, now that we know we’ll be facing Tampa Bay in the division playoffs, I’m honestly a bit uneasy...
