The Devils placed forward Patrik Elias on injured reserve and designated forward Mattias Tedenby as an injured non-roster player today to get down to the 23-player roster limit by today’s 5 p.m. deadline for the start of the 2013-14 season. Earlier today the Devils sent right wing Cam Janssen down to Albany of the AHL after he cleared waivers. Elias’ time on the IR can be back dated to the time of his injury which was in the Devils’ 2-1 preseason win in Philadelphia last Tuesday. That would make him eligible to come off the injured reserve Wednesday—seven days without playing—so he could still play in the team’s regular season opener Thursday in Pittsburgh.. Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello said the team is still “hoping” Elias will be ready for the opener. “We’re certainly hoping and he sounds good and if that happens we’ll have to make a move” Lamoriello said. Lamoriello acknowledged that today’s moves basically just bought him a little more time to get the roster settled
