The Nashville Predators selected defenseman Jonathan-Ismael Diaby with their second pick of the 2013 NHL Draft, 64th overall. Last season, Diaby played 67 games with Victoriaville in the QMJHL scoring 26 points (4g, 2a).  Draft J.I.D. means the Predators have selected two defensemen with their first two picks. However, they play two different games. Seth Jones is an offensive defenseman, while Diaby is a more stay-at-home guy. This pick neutralizes the upcoming talent on the back end.  At 6'5,  Diaby's size is what allows him to be the most effective, whether it is punishing his opponents or dropping the gloves. Hockey's Future has an analysis on his game. First and foremost, there's his size. Diaby is blessed with great natural talents and is a punishing force on the blue line. Not only is he tall, but he has already filled out, which makes the lives of opposing players even more difficult as they try to enter into the offensive zone. He pairs that size with a nasty edge and good skating ability, allowing him to play a physical style without sacrificing positioning. He can make a solid first pass out of the zone, but his game is primarily defense-first.
