The Arizona Diamondbacks were hoping infielder Willie Bloomquist's hand injury wouldn’t require a stint on the disabled list. However, the veteran’s ailment wasn’t healing as expected, and the team ultimately decided to shelve him for at least 15 days. Bloomquist suffered the injury when he was hit on the hand by a pitch last Wednesday. He’s been unavailable since, taking up a spot on Arizona’s bench. Since Bloomquist wasn’t recovery as hoped but instead taking a spot on the D’backs’ bench, manager Kirk Gibson told Steve Gilbert of MLB.com that the DL was deemed necessary. "Willie's just not progressing, and we've been playing short so we made the decision that we would go the other way with him," Gibson said. In a limited role with the Diamondbacks, Bloomquist has hit .292/.342/.347 with four doubles over 79 plate appearances. Arizona replaced him on their roster by recalling Tony Campana from Triple-A. Diamondbacks Catcher Miguel Montero Gives His Bat Some Love and Gets None in Return

When it comes to picking the right piece of equipment player have their own methods--some stranger than others--to help them pick the right stuff. Sometimes its something simple like getting the feel for the weight of a bat and taking a few swings, and sometimes its something a lot more intimate. Like a little tongue action. After trying road trip, D-backs glad to be home for a spell

Up until the past week and a half, the road had been fairly kind to the Diamondbacks. They were 20-18 away from Chase Field and had won some big games in opponents' parks.
