MLB Injury News:
The Arizona Diamondbacks were hoping infielder Willie Bloomquist's hand injury wouldn’t require a stint on the disabled list.
However, the veteran’s ailment wasn’t healing as expected, and the team
ultimately decided to shelve him for at least 15 days.
Bloomquist suffered the injury when he was hit on the hand
by a pitch last Wednesday. He’s been unavailable since, taking up a spot on
Arizona’s bench. Since Bloomquist wasn’t recovery as hoped but instead taking a
spot on the D’backs’ bench, manager Kirk Gibson told Steve Gilbert of MLB.com
that the DL was deemed necessary.
"Willie's just not progressing, and we've been playing
short so we made the decision that we would go the other way with him," Gibson
In a limited role with the Diamondbacks, Bloomquist has hit
.292/.342/.347 with four doubles over 79 plate appearances. Arizona replaced
him on their roster by recalling Tony Campana from Triple-A.

Your browser does not support iframes. Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Martin Prado stomped on the baseball in frustration after being unable to field a slow roller during Wednesday night's game against the New York Mets. It happened in the first inning as Mets batter Eric Young hit the grounder to third, which was slowed down a bit due to a wet field. Prado had to run...
As if the Diamondbacks needed anything else to go wrong, Willie Bloomquist is now going to miss more time, hitting the disabled list for the second time this season. The team announced the veteran infielder was being placed on the 15-day disabled list with a contusion on his left hand. He was hit by a pitch last Wednesday against the Nationals in Washington, but x-rays confirmed...

The Diamondbacks are amid their only series at Citi Field in New York this season, but at least two D-backs could be making a return trip there in two weeks.
With rosters for the 2013 MLB All-Star Game being announced Saturday, the D-backs should have at least two players on their way back to New York for the July 16 game.
First baseman Paul Goldschmidt is widely considered a...
PHOENIX -- It took just four days for Diamondbacks fans to donate more than 100,000 to victims of the Yarnell fire -- a figure matched by the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation -- so the D-backs charitable arm announced Friday that it would match another 100,000 for contributions made through dbacks.com19.
The generosity of our fans over the past four days has been truly inspirational...
When it comes to picking the right piece of equipment player have their own methods--some stranger than others--to help them pick the right stuff. Sometimes its something simple like getting the feel for the weight of a bat and taking a few swings, and sometimes its something a lot more intimate.
Like a little tongue action.
PHOENIX -- In their first home game since the tragic Yarnell Hill fire, the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday paid an emotional tribute to the 19 Granite Mountain Hot Shots who lost their lives last week.
The Diamondbacks and the visiting Colorado Rockies wore black caps with "Prescott Fire Dept." lettered on the crest during batting practice and the national anthem, and...
Video: Of course the Mets allowed this
Up until the past week and a half, the road had been fairly kind to the Diamondbacks. They were 20-18 away from Chase Field and had won some big games in opponents' parks.
But then came a brutal 10-game East Coast swing that probably has the D-backs clamoring for the comforts of home, especially after playing 14 total extra innings and sitting through more than four hours of...
Randall Delgado outpitched Matt Harvey for his first major league win in more than a year, and the Arizona Diamondbacks snapped a five-game skid with a 5-3 victory over the New York Mets after a long rain delay Wednesday night.
Cody Ross hit a three-run homer off Harvey to put Arizona ahead, and Delgado struck out a career-high nine in seven innings to give the NL West leaders their...
This team just can’t catch a break when it comes to injuries this year. Maybe that’s a bad pun. Veteran infielder Willie Bloomquist was diagnosed with two fractures in his hand Friday after being hit by a pitch June 26.
Evening all and thanks for joining me for this game. It took place on Monday evening July 1, 2013. There are currently terrible forest fires in Arizona and 19 members of one unit were lost.
