Live television isn’t easy by any means. Mistakes have to be to a minimum because of the fact that you are live to viewers across the country at that very moment.
So yesterday while discussing the NCAA tournament and the 5 vs. 12 match-ups in the bracket, Reece Davis asked Dick Vitale about where potential upsets could come from. Vitale began discussing a California vs. New Mexico match-up that isn’t going to happen. Davis then let Vitale know that match-up didn’t exist and the one Vitale was referencing was actually Cal vs. UNLV. Watch the video below courtesy of DieHard Sport, because the exchange that follows next is funny as Vitale doesn’t realize he is on live TV.
To his credit, Vitale recovered very quickly and the brief awkward moment just ended up being a funny blooper for us to chuckle at.

When discussing the four different 5 vs. 12 NCAA Tournament matchups, Dick Vitale mixed up UNLV and New Mexico. He started talking about a New Mexico-Cal matchup that isn’t going to happen before Reece Davis stopped him and let him know it was UNLV-Cal that would be playing. Vitale paused and seemed to waiting for another hint to start the take over when Davis then pointed...
As the NCAA men's basketball tournament brackets were released yesterday, the fine folks over at ESPN were doing their bracket breakdown show.
ESPN's Rece Davis was talking with analyst Dick Vitale regarding the 5/12 match-ups when Dickie V accidentally said "New Mexico" instead of UNLV.
After he made the mistake, Dickie V thought for some reason that he was...
Dick Vitale has forgotten more about basketball than most people will ever know so when the legendary announcer flubs his lines during a live segment he deserves a little bit of slack. What's impressive about the piece though is the way he recovered from the flub by making a joke out of it.
Nice job Dick. A lot of guys could sure learn a few things from you.
Selection Sunday can be a long day in Bristol with the hours of pre and post bracket coverage. Dick Vitale was in Greensboro to call the ACC Title game and then appeared later in the evening on ESPN's Bracketology show. So, we can forgive him for mixing up New Mexico and UNLV after a long day's work. After all, they both play in the Mountain West and if you live east...
Michigan State got its wish, but it could be a case of being careful what you wish for.
The No. 3 seed Spartans are staying close to home, opening the NCAA tournament on Thursday just 82 miles down the road from East Lansing at The Palace of Auburn Hills. They will play Horizon Conference tournament champion and No. 14-seed Valparaiso (26-7).
But theyre also in the Midwest Region...
Starting today and assuredly continuing for the next three weeks, you’ll want to punch out some of your officemates. And it’ll have nothing to do with their poor performance at work. It happens, it’s NCAA Tournament time. Everyone is a genius and re-born yesterday as Nostradamus. Violence doesn’t belong in the workplace, but it hand-to-hand combat might just necessary. And...
Digger Phelps’ act is getting old at ESPN.
When the University of Louisville is involved in a big game, one can always count on Phelps to predict the opponent will win. Notre Dame, of course, every time. Syracuse, Georgetown, Pittsburgh, UConn, they’re always going to beat UofL. I don’t believe I’ve ever heard him predict a Louisville win.
After a while, it becomes pretty...
