The Washington Redskins have finished cutting their roster down to 53 players, making some tough decisions in the process. The most talked about/debated position was running back. Head coach Jay Gruden chose to keep the trio of Alfred Morris, Roy Helu Jr, and Silas Redd. Second year back Chris Thompson was signed to the practice squad, while rookie sixth round pick Lache Seastrunk was cut and not signed to the ten-man practice squad as of Sunday night. Morris is old reliable and figures to have another big year in the zone-running scheme that he and the offensive line are comfortable with. Helu will be the 3rd down/change-of-pace back. Gruden is comfortable knowing that Helu can carry the load as the feature back should Morris get injured. Redd can also fill in as that feature back role should Morris get hurt and Gruden elects to keep Helu as the change-of-pace back. Redd really impressed all camp and into the preseason and looks like a natural who goes about his business as a professional. The question is will the Redskins regret not keeping Seastrunk, whether it be on the 53 man roster or the practice squad. Seastrunk turned into a crowd favorite after his impressive 80-yard touchdown pass in the final preseason game. He has a lot of potential, and can do things that not many other backs can do. Maybe something was going on behind the scenes with Seastrunk that we just don’t know about, or maybe Gruden just like Chris Thompson more. Thompson and Seastrunk both figured to fill the same role. Now the Redskins just have to hope that Thompson can stay healthy and make them happy with the choice they made. View poll on FanMob Follow Wayne Thomas at @Wat2384 Like this?
