Newly re-acquired tight end D.J. Williams was already on his way to New England when he got word that Rob Gronkowski was injured on Sunday. Williams had planned to be present at the game to watch, but couldn't make it in time because his flight got delayed. While he was unsigned with the team when he made the flight, that wouldn't last long as the Pats acted quickly and re-signed Williams, this time through the 2014 season. Williams was only disappointed because his opportunity coincided with the Pats loss of Gronk, per ESPN: “It was unfortunate. I was only here for a week, but I understood how great of a guy he is already,” he said. “Talk about a guy who has been through so much with injuries. I wasn’t like ‘I’m going to get a spot.’ I genuinely felt upset for him and hope the best for him in the future.” In the meantime, Williams has done his best to fill Gronk's shoes in other ways, specifically with his gift for a certain type of gab. When asked about how difficult it would be to pick up the Patriots complex offensive schemes, Williams had a specific comparison in mind that would make Gronk proud: D.J. Williams had the best analogy I can remember, as he tried to explain learning the Patriots' offensive terminology.
