There hasn't been anything like this in Dodgers history not only in this century but in the last one as well. With their 4-2 win over the New York Mets at Dodger Stadium on Monday night the Dodgers are a remarkable 38-8 in their last 46 games. And the last team in franchise history to accomplish that feat was a forerunner of the Dodgers the Brooklyn Superbas of 1899 — 114 years ago. This was the sixth consecutive win for the first-place Dodgers who are 21-3 since the All-Star break and 18 games above .500 for the season. The win in the first game of a three-game series with the Mets was the quintessential team effort. A batch of singles — along with a Mets throwing error — enabled the Dodgers to score three times in the sixth inning and Nick Punto's solo home run in the seventh added insurance. "It feels like one of those teams" Punto said. Dodgers starter Ricky Nolasco (9-9) gave his offense a chance to get back in the game by settling down after a rocky se...

Nick Punto Celebrates Dodgers Win With Danny DeVito Who Makes Infielder Look Like a Giant (Video)

Actor Danny DeVito was at the Dodgers-Mets game Monday night, and for whatever reason, he was wearing a Nick Punto jersey. That set the stage for what has to be one of the more memorable embraces of Punto’s career. The Shredder, as Punto’s affectionately known, hit a big home run in the Dodgers’ win over the Mets to keep Los Angeles rolling. After the game, Punto was pulled...

Lucas Duda Sums Up Why He Won’t Be On The Mets Moving Forward

Lucas Duda would prefer to never use a glove again Lucas Duda has recently been seeing more time at first base, his natural position, rather than left field. This decision has reportedly been made solely by Triple-A manager Wally Backman, not from the front office. It’s no secret that Duda never felt comfortable in the outfield, as he could turn even the most routine of fly balls...

MMO Mailbag: Could Wright Be Convinced To Move To Left Field?

I thought I would share an interesting email exchange I had with Dave In Spain who I’m sure most of you know from MMO and several other popular Mets sites. I know they’d never ask the Captain, but do you think David Wright could ever be convinced to “volunteer” to move to left field? This would solve the Flores positional issue, leave Murphy in place, and make it easier...

Dodgers 4, Mets 2

Adrian Gonzalez scored the go-ahead run on Yasiel Puig's sacrifice fly that capped a three-run sixth inning, helping the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the New York Mets 4-2 on Monday night for their sixth straight victory. The Dodgers improved to 38-8 since June 22, the franchise's best 46-game stretch in the modern era that began in 1900. The 1899 Brooklyn Superbas had 38 wins...

Clayton Kershaw, Dodgers look unbeatable in 8-2 win over Rays

The Dodgers had just toyed with the Tampa Bay Rays in front of a sellout crowd and a national television audience. The Dodgers rarely lose anymore and so a television reporter asked Adrian Gonzalez if they felt unbeatable. "Definitely not unbeatable" he said. Not really a preferred sound bite not when Gonzalez stopped after three words. So the reporter tried again asking...

Hits & Misses: Forever Young? Who’s At Short? A Flores For Your Thoughts?

What a week we just wrapped up and as is usually the case, there’s plenty of storylines and news we can talk about before the Mets take the field at 10:10 PM against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Who’s At Short? For the time being Terry Collins is fully intent on going with Omar Quintanilla as his everyday shortstop. “I’ve yet to see why Omar Quintanilla should lose his job. All...

Mets likely to shut Matt Harvey down after 200 innings

The end seems to be approaching for New York Mets ace Matt Harvey. Although the team still has not put an exact figure on how many innings they'll let their young starter throw, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com suggests that the organisation is unlikely to let him go far past 200 innings, just over 30 more than last season's 169 1/3. Harvey is naturally keen to keep pitching but...

Harvey Lacked Command Of His Off-Speed Pitches Against The Dodgers

Matt Harvey is in the midst of a spectacular season, his first full one in the major leagues. But as he showed on Tuesday night against the Dodgers, even he is susceptible to an occasional hiccup now and then. The Mets’ ace lacked command of his off-speed pitches and the Dodgers made him pay by tagging Harvey for four runs on eight hits over six innings pitched. His ERA took a...

Flores Homers, Finishes First Week In Majors With Nine RBIs

Congratulations to Wilmer Flores who walloped his first major-league home run on Sunday as the Mets beat the Diamondbacks 9-5. Flores extended his streak to five straight games with an RBI and also tied the franchise record for most runs batted in with nine in his first six major league appearances. It’s shaping up to be one of the best debuts for a Mets position player in franchise...

Umpires, Dodgers Take Down The Mets In Frustrating 4-2 Loss

I don’t even want to write this up, honestly. The umpiring crew…or rather Chad Fairchild played a hand in really screwing the Mets over in this game, which was a tough loss to follow. Let’s start with the good — Wilmer Flores looked pretty damn good out there again. Flores scored in the second inning when John Buck and Omar Quintanilla strung together back-to-back RBI singles...

Reverting Back to “You Gotta Believe”

In 2005, the Mets fan was generally an optimistic one. Sure, we as fans were still getting over the bitter Subway Series defeat. Yet, the idea that somebody fresh and new was coming in to take over the Mets and build a team around our two young potential stars in Jose Reyes and David Wright allowed any Mets fan I know to be patient, but more importantly optimistic. The ideas of a...
