Los Angeles Dodgers rookie Yasiel Puig has been hit by a pitch from Arizona's Ian Kennedy in the sixth inning.
Puig went down after the ball glanced off his left shoulder and struck him in the face. The 22-year-old Cuban defector eventually sat up and was examined by a team trainer after a Spanish translator was summoned.
Puig's nose was checked by the trainer and after a few minutes, the rookie got up and took first base. Andre Ethier followed with a two-run homer that scored Puig and tied the game 2-2 on Tuesday night.
There was prolonged booing by the crowd as they waited to see if Puig would remain in the game.
Puig was named the NL player of the week for his sensational first seven games in the major leagues.

Upon further review regarding the Dodgers-Diamondbacks melee, I'm more worried about Yasiel Puig, less worried about Zack Greinke and astonished that baseball doesn't ban bench-clearing brawls.
I'm more worried about Puig, not only because he injured his throwing (punching?) shoulder in Tuesday night's donnybrook, but also because was out of control during the fight...
Things could get ugly soon in this Dodgers- Arizona Diamondbacks game as the LA’s new superstar, Yasiel Puig, was drilled in the face by a 92 mph pitch by Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Ian Kennedy. Puig managed to stay in the game but probably not something LA management and Dodgers retail stores will ever want to see.
Next inning: Greinke retaliates and ends up hitting Miguel Montero.

IT'S AN OUTRAGE
The Dodgers are still upset with the Diamondbacks after their benches-clearing brawl. They still feel like some codes were violated.
Don’t mess with a $147 million pitcher. There will be retaliation.
Before Diamondbacks starting pitcher Ian Kennedy hit counterpart Dodgers starter Zack Greinke, three other batters had been hit in Tuesday night’s contest between Arizona and Los Angeles. When Kennedy threw one up and in that plunked Greinke high on the shoulder, well, that was all it took.

The Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers had a bench clearing brawl in the 7th inning
of Tuesday nights game at Dodger Stadium.
This had been brewing since the sixth inning when D-Backs pitcher Ian Kennedy beaned Dodger phenom Yasiel Puig with a 92 MPH fastball in the face.
In the top of the seventh Dodger pitcher Zach Greinke retaliated beaning Diamondback catcher...
The most common complaint about the occasional bench-clearing brawl is that it exposes players to potential injuries. But as much as pushing, shoving, punching, kicking, biting or whatever can harm players, nothing is as dangerous or as bush league as a pitch intentionally thrown at someone’s head.
The mere idea of a hard baseball traveling 90-plus mph toward a human body should...
As far as baseball brawls go Tuesday night's up-close-and-personal between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks was a pro-wrestling cage fight.
First, Dodgers phenom Yasiel Puig was plunked by a pitch in the face by Ian Kennedy then, after Zack Greinke plunked Miguel Montero, Kennedy plunked Greinke high on the shoulder with a 92 mph fastball setting off a seventh...
There was a pretty crazy brawl during the Diamondbacks-Dodgers game last night. The issues erupted in the sixth inning, after Ian Kennedy hit Yasiel Puig in the face. Zack Greinke retaliated by hitting Miguel Montero, and that should have been that after the benches cleared. But in the bottom of the seventh, Kennedy threw at Greinke's head, and all hell broke loose. Puig, Kennedy...

Atlanta Braves rookie Evan Gattis has had a storybook start to his major league career. Gattis has 14 home runs in only 156 at bats and is tied for the Braves team lead with Justin Upton, even though he has 68 fewer at bats. He is also second on the team in RBI with 37, only 6 behind team leader, Freddie Freeman. Freeman has had 43 more at bats than Gattis. Gattis is sixth...
