Fox Sports Florida:
The Miami Dolphins are expected to release defensive end Phillip Merling, the 32nd overall pick in the 2008 draft.
Merling missed all but five games of the 2010 season with a torn Achilles, an injury incurred working out on his own, and has been a disappointment on and off the field.
Merling finished 2011 with four tackles and made five career starts in four seasons with the Dolphins.

Why NOT to believe that Stephen Ross is pushing for Dolphins to draft Tannehill
Let’s get this out of the way: The Miami Dolphins are going to draft a player in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft that they believe is the best asset to their organization. I didn’t say it would be the right choice. I didn’t even say it would be at the number 8 [...]
2012 NFL team needs - Miami Dolphins
Written by: Matthew BlunkAfter spending the previous offseason pursuing Stanford head coach (and eventual San Francisco 49ers head coach) Jim Harbaugh and leaving their own coach Tony Sparano out to dry, the Miami Dolphins opened up the 2011 season with seven consecutive losses. But they were a team with some fight in them. Sure, they weren't the most talented squad in football...

The Dolphins nearly had perfect attendance Tuesday at the start of their voluntary three-day mini-camp, as 63 of 64 veterans under contract participated in the two 90-minute practices. But the one absence was noticeable - pass rusher Cameron Wake, who sat out the day in protest of his contract situation. Wake, who leads the Dolphins with 22 1/2 sacks over the past two seasons, is...
