Kent State running back Dri Archer clocked an impressive time of 4.29 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine.
BEST OF MAXIM
Kent State’s Dri Archer was just a hair off from breaking Chris Johnson’s All-Time NFL Combine record in the 40-yard-dash. The running-back posted a official time of 4.26, just 0.2 seconds off Johnson’s time of 4.24 at the 2008 Combine. Some NFL team is going to be very happy to have this type of speed on their team.

If you don’t know much about Kent State’s Dri Archer, you will probably hear a lot about him leading up to draft day. The shifty running back had an incredible performance in the 40-yard dash today, running an official time of 4.26, just .02 seconds behind Chris Johnson’s combine record of 4.24.

If Archer’s unofficial time stands, it would be tied for the 11th fastest 40-yard dash time in NFL Combine history.
Chris Johnson’s 2.24 time...
Former Kent State running back Dri Archer fell two-hundredths of a second short of breaking the record for the fastest 40-yard dash at the Scouting Combine.
Archer ran his 40 in 4.26 seconds, just shy of the record of 4.24 set by Chris Johnson in 2008. Archer’s time tops the 4.27 that Marquise Goodwin ran last year, and Archer now owns the second-fastest 40 since the NFL started...
Kent State is not known for being a football powerhouse. To be honest--the Golden Flashes are not very good, but it looks like the team's second most productive running back from last season could earn himself a cool $100K after turning in a blazing fast time in the 40-yard dash. That is, assuming he wore the right cleats...From Bleacher ReportAssuming Kent State running back...
Kent State RB Dri Archer just barely missed Chris Johnson’s combine record of 4.24 but running a blazing 4.26 40 yard dash. I think a team in the NFL will be able to utilize that type of speed.
Chris Johnson was a little nervous too:

Speed was on full display when the running backs took the field at the 2014 NFL Combine. Chris Johnson holds the record with a 4.24 in 2008, and that time was under attack thanks to Kent State's Dri Archer who ran a 4.26.Dri Archer, Kent State 4.24Jerick Mckinnon, Georgia Southern 4.41Henry Josey, Missouri, 4.43Damien Williams, Oklahoma 4.45Ladarius Perkins, Mississippi St. 4.46

Very, very fast. Just not the fastest man ever to run a 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine.
Running Sunday inside Lucas Oil Stadium twice, Archer posted unofficial times of 4.27 and 4.29, and NFL Network later shared his official time at 4.26, .02 off the event record set by Chris Johnson in 2008.
