SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- Ben Curtis won on the Texas Open on Sunday for his first PGA Tour title since 2006, holding off Matt Every and John Huh in a tense back-nine finish for a two-stroke victory.
Curtis birdied the par-5 18th for an even-par 72 and 9-under total. It was a redeeming and emotional win for the 2003 British Open winner who had only limited tour status after a long slump...

UB Winning Streak Over; Lose on the Road to Kent State
The Bulls entered Kent State Tuesday having never beaten the Golden Flashes on the road during Reggie Witherspoon’s tenure as head coach (0-12). UB did their best to change that Tuesday but wasted too many late opportunities as they fell on the road 76-71, seeing their 8-game winning streak disappear. Zach Filzen led the Bulls on the night with 20 points, 17 of which came in the...

Following back-to-back losses to Ohio and Akron, the Golden Flashes appeared headed in the wrong direction.
First-year coach Rob Senderoff, however, never wavered in support of his team.

Kent State not facing adversity well
There is some good news about the Golden Flashes, but it has nothing to do with how they are playing.
Kent State's next two games are against Toledo and Northern Illinois, the two worst teams in the Mid-American Conference. That's the lone positive for the Golden Flashes, who have not only lost their last two games, but have done so in embarrassing fashion.
The biggest...

Golden Flashes streaking down the home stretch
A month ago it looked like the Golden Flashes' season was going nowhere.
Kent State had lost six of its first seven games and was 0-3 in the Mid-American Conference. The offense was struggling, the line couldn't protect the quarterback or generate a running game. Making matters worse, there were hints of dissension between the offense and the defense, whose players were...

NCAA Football Picks of Week 11
As it turns out:
The University of Akron and Kent State University, located just 10 miles apart, first played for the Wagon Wheel in 1946. The story goes that John R. Buchtel was searching for a site to start a new college in 1870 near what is now Kent State University when his wagon became stuck in the mud. The horses pulled the wagon apart and one of the wheels ended up being...
