September arrives with children heading back to school, football season and hockey waiting in the wings.  Last year, it had to wait a long time, due to the lockout, but this year life is back to "normal." All 30 teams around the league have their players and prospects reporting today, September 11.  Twelve years ago, the Ducks opened their on-ice portion of training camp in a world that had suddenly become uncertain.  It also put hockey in perspective - it was just a game.  Fans and players alike spent breaks crowded around TV screens, yearning for the most recent news.  Twelve years later and hockey is still just a game, but it doesn't mean that it doesn't offer a great diversion. For the Anaheim Ducks, this will be Teemu Selanne's last training camp as the 43 year old has said - one more year, but that's all folks.   Today players will be taking their physicals, photo shoots, and all the other rigamarole that goes into the season.  Tom...

For Ducks' Teemu Selanne, fitness testing is first of many 'lasts'

Why was Ducks right wing Teemu Selanne smiling Wednesday? He knew it was the last time he’d ever have to go through hockey players’ least-favorite day -- preseason fitness testing -- because he recently announced that he will retire after the coming NHL season his 21st. “Exactly!” he said after completing his appointed tests at the Honda Center. “Honestly this is the...

Silfverberg impresses on first day with Ducks

It's unfair to expect 22-year-old Jakob Silfverberg to immediately replace four-time 30-goal scorer Bobby Ryan on the Ducks' scoresheet or in the hearts of their fans. But Silfverberg, who had 10 goals and 19 points in 48 games with Ottawa last season, has enough talent to suggest he will carve out his own niche with the Ducks, who acquired him with winger Stefan Noesen...

Dustin Penner back in Anaheim after leaving LA

Although Dustin Penner only moved about 40 miles when he left the Los Angeles Kings, he's hoping his return to the Anaheim Ducks is also a trip back in time. After 2 1/2 low-scoring seasons with the Kings, the left wing is eager to regain his elite goal-scoring form in Anaheim, where he began his NHL career and won his first Stanley Cup title in 2007. Six years after he left...

In an attempt to improve the Wild’s depth up the middle and perhaps sign an eventual bargain the Wild will bring veteran center David Steckel into training camp on a professional tryout agreement. Steckel who has played 419 games for four teams over eight NHL seasons was one of the out-of-work victims of the shrinking salary cap this summer. “It was a difficult summer” said...
