Once teammates, now playing for opposing teams in the AFC West, Dwight Freeney can’t wait until he gets a chance to tackle Peyton Manning. This offseason Dwight signed with the San Diego Chargers and will be face Manning twice this upcoming season.
In an interview on XTRA Sports 1360 in San Diego, Freeney said, “It would definitely be great to get after him. He’s a great competitor, I’m a great competitor. How many times have I envisioned hitting him during practice, when he had that 5-yard halo around him and you couldn’t go in that circle? Millions of times. So it would be fun to get after him a little bit.”
Not only Manning will be reading that quote in the offseason, but I am guessing Denver’s offensive line will take note of Freeney’s comment. To be fair Freeney did say that Manning is like family to him.
Plus earlier this year Manning tried to bring Dwight to Denver when it looked like the Colts were not going to resign him.
Freeney spoke with NBS Sports back in February about it saying, “I don’t know how serious it was but, you know, it’s good to hear some of your former teammates still follow you, they care and they want to see you succeed,”
Maybe Freeney is not happy with not signing with the Broncos and felt Manning could have done more to reunite as teammates. The Chargers will play the Broncos in Denver on November 10th and again on December 12th in San Diego.
How many sacks will Freeney get on Manning? I am saying he will get a total of two sacks this year.
