The Eagles did it. They traded up, but not to get inside the top 10. After seeing some of the players projected to go to them get taken early–Stephon Gilmore, Dontari Poe, Mark Barron–the team didn’t want to tempt fate any further and hope that their man would be there at the 15th spot.
So instead, they did what they do so well. They moved up.
With the #12 selection in the draft, the Eagles picked Mississippi State DT Fletcher Cox. Recent mocks had Cox being long gone before Philadelphia had a chance, so when he was still around at 9, 10, 11, Philadelphia knew they had to pull the trigger.
In a wild first round that saw trades as the order of the day, Philadelphia traded with Seattle to get to the #12 spot. In doing so they gave up a 4th (114 overall) and 6th round (172 overall) pick.
