Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that the Eagles are trying to sell Oregon head coach Chip Kelly on the fact they already have similar personnel at the skill positions and the fact that Michael Vick could be retained as quarterback next year. Jason Cole of Yahoo Sports mentions that Vick may not be all that accommodating in regards to restructuring his current deal that will pay him a base salary of $15.5 million next season. Cole specifically mentions that Vick “doesn’t trust Philly right now” and “knows he’s going to get paid by somebody,” so there’s no reason for him to jump at the chance to remain with the Eagles. Nick Foles doesn’t possess the same skill set, so it’s hard to say what his future with the team will be. Vick is currently 32 and is almost guaranteed to miss a few games each year. The Eagles aren’t guaranteed to land Kelly, but they have quickly taken over as the favorite. Kelly’s leverage continues to rise as the backup plan for both the Browns and the Eagles was to sign Syracuse head coach Doug Marrone, but the Bills have already signed him to be their next head coach.
