Bellator Fighting Championships CEO Bjorn Rebney announced on Twitter today that former Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez will face Patricky “Pitbull” Freire at Bellator 76 on October 12th from Caesar’s Windsor Hotel & Casino in Ontario, Canada. This is the final fight on Alvarez’s Bellator contract before he becomes a free agent.
Alvarez lost his Bellator lightweight championship to Michael Chandler at Bellator 58, but bounced back with a first-round technical knockout win over Shinya Aoki at Bellator 66. Alvarez is 23-3 overall and 7-1 inside the Bellator cage.
Freire came up just short in Bellator’s season four lightweight tournament, dropping a unanimous decision to the aforementioned Chandler at Bellator 44. He defeated UFC veteran Kurt Pellegrino by first-round technical knockout at Bellator 59, but suffered an elbow injury in a second-round submission loss to Lloyd Woodard at Bellator 62.
