GREEN BAY, Wis. In an offseason that's been filled with questions about the Green Bay Packers' unproductive running game of recent years, coach Mike McCarthy finally felt comfortable enough to strongly proclaim his confidence that the 2013 season won't be like the three that preceded it. "We'll be better, I can promise you that," McCarthy said Tuesday. "You can write that down. Big letters." Despite the overall success that the Packers have had, including a Super Bowl win in 2010 followed by consecutive appearances in the divisional round of the playoffs, McCarthy has not found a way to balance the team's offense. Last season, Green Bay ranked 20th in the NFL in rushing yards and 22nd in yards per carry. And that was the best team performance the Packers have had running the ball since 2009. It was even worse for McCarthy's offense in 2011 (27th in yards, 26th in average) and 2010 (24th in yards, 25th in average). "I think there&...

Fool me once: Packers defense doing their homework on the read-option, won’t be fooled twice

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick gave the Green Bay Packers a pop quiz on the read-option in the 2012 playoff. They failed. The result was Kaepernick running wild and jettisoning the Packers from the playoffs with little regard. A lack of preparation and the fact the 49ers had run the offense in only the previous three games, made a perfect storm for the Packers...

Packers rumors: Green Bay to release Desmond Bishop

After failing to trade Desmond Bishop, the Green Bay Packers are preparing to cut ties with the linebacker, according to ESPN Milwaukee. According to an NFL source, barring an unlikely contract restructure or trade, the Packers will be parting ways with Bishop, who missed all of last season with a ruptured hamstring tendon suffered in the Aug. 9 preseason opener at San Diego....

Packers sign fastest 40-yard dash runner Terrell Sinkfield

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The Green Bay Packers added a 12th wide receiver to their 90-man roster on Tuesday, signing one of the fastest players in pre-draft history in Terrell Sinkfield. Sinkfieldcaused a stir with his blazing 40-yard dash speed back in March at the University of Minnesota pro day. He clocked in at 4.19 seconds in his second attempt in the 40-yard dash. That's faster...

Pena Put Football Dreams on Hold for Mother

Gilbert Pena, the Packers' 26-year-old rookie defensive tackle, gave up football and school for four years to be with his cancer-stricken mom. She's beaten the cancer and now Pena hopes to beat the odds as an undrafted free agent.

Packers and Desmond Bishop headed for a likely breakup

GREEN BAY, Wis. The six-year relationship between the Green Bay Packers and inside linebacker Desmond Bishop appears to be heading for a split. According to multiple reports, the Packers plan to release or trade Bishop unless they can agree to a restructured contract soon. Bishop, 28, is scheduled to make 3.46 million for the 2013 season and 3.52 million for the 2014 season as...

Releasing Bishop Stands in Contrast to Focus

The Packers are trying to force more fumbles and Desmond Bishop and Charles Woodson were two of the best on the team. Thus, a report of Bishop's possible release makes little sense, beyond dollars and cents.

From Hospital to Practice to Key Defender?

There's no doubting Terrell Manning's toughness. Last training camp, a weak and sleep-deprived Manning went to the hospital yet practiced, anyway. His nasty bout with colitis behind him, Manning is ready to show the Packers' three-pick investment wasn't wasted.
