Denver Broncos defensive end Elvis Dumervil agreed to a reduced salary, but was released by the team after the paperwork for the new contract was not filed with the league office in time, according to sources.

Dumervil's 2013 salary of $12 million was set to be guaranteed at 4 p.m. ET, but he agreed to take a cut to $8 million. However, the new deal was not received by the league office in time.

According to a source, both parties reached agreement at 3:25 p.m. on the restructured contract. But the team did not get a fax from Dumervil's agent until 4:06 p.m., so they had to release him, according to the source.

....

This has got to be one of the biggest boneheaded blunder in free agency history. lol Well, the Eagles know his asking price. Why not make a push? :)

  • It doesn't seem like a bad idea at first but when looked at closer it's a bit redundant.

Dumervil only makes sense in a 4-3 situation as the Bronco's protected him by not asking him to cover, so a he'd be one dimensional as a 3-4 OLB and easy to game plan around (screens, stretch runs, TE outs for example).

Also we have pass rushing 4-3 DE's in, Graham, Cole, Hunt, and Curry. What we lack is a DE who can stack and hold the edge vs. the run. Dumervil can play the run but not for 8 million dollars. That's over-paying. Plenty of more reasonably priced guys out there for that.
  • I agree with flipper. The Eagles won't make such a move for a player of his caliber and price tag.
  • If I were the Eagles and I had to target an AFC West DE, it would be San Diego's Vaughn Martin. I remember him from that game where we lost our LS Jon Condon and Travis Goethel (gamely) tried to step up and well....it still hurts to talk about it.

Martin could play DE or DT in a 4-3 or DE in a 3-4. He'd give us enough strength to set the edge, enough size to fill lanes, and be more affordable to boot.
  • hunk hunk hunk burnin love
  • I thought the Eagles would consider signing an offensive lineman, but the fact they haven't makes me think they will be drafting a few this coming draft. It seemed Defense and the offensive line were the biggest problems last season. they have addressed several defensive needs via free agency, but they haven't touched the line.
  • I see.... It's your fault ks has been on this music schtick Latin.
  • EZ/GTD- Elvis left the building and entered the house of Raven. So much for your theory that the Ravens got rid of half the squad. They will play Denver in AFC championship. Newsome a great GM. The organization has made several strong off season moves. Howie should learn from a winner like ozzie. Ok you can go back to the QB controversy now and waste more time.
  • Get back to me when you figure who the Ravens starting secondary will be. Dumervil equals Jason Babin.
  • It was a good signing and luck and a bone-headed move by the Broncos helped make it happen. Dumervil doesn't equal Boldin, Reed, Ellerbe, Williams, Lewis, Kruger and Pollard. My whole point to you was that if the Eagles made some of the same moves that the Ravens were making you would have been whining a storm up. Regardless, I unlike you don't get hung up on what other teams are doing. The Eagles made some nice moves in free agency and some of players will end up sticking and helping the team in the long run. Most of the contracts they offered them will let them choose which ones will stick beyond next year. The players (contracts) they let walk will allow the Eagles to be players in free agency in Kelly's second year. Barwin was one of the more highly regarded OLB/DE's in free agency and should be an instant starter and Casey could be extremely effective in Kelly's offense. They plugged some holes which will allow the draft process to be a little easier for them...they made some nice moves but you will just sit there and whine because that is what comes natural to you. We both know that no matter what the Eagles would have done you would have found fault with them...it's what you do.
  • I would trade our entire FO for even HALF of Ozzie Newsome at GM. And I wouldn't even care which half we got.
  • Ravens sign Canty , Spears, Dumerville, Consadine, Ward. And you think losing Kruger, Pollard , williams, boldin and ellerbe arent being replaced with capable help. Sometimes GTD you are a clueless character. Flip is right. Ozzie is a standup , straight up GM and they will be right back in the mix. He knows what he has in Flacco and hes replacing some role players- Ellerbe, Kruger, Williams and Pollard with players equally capable if not better. With the Ravens everything starts upfront with Haloti. While the Eagles take their fans on the QB carousel the Ravens are prepping to apply some whoop ass on the AFC
  • Are you seriously going gaga over Sean Considine and Cris Canty? LOL that's a new low for you. Marcus Spears and his 10 NFL Career sacks. Wow dude you have reached a new low.
  • Im not going gaga over them but Spears and Canty are capable big bodies. Thjey are better than Thorton and Dixon. If you understood the Raven defense then you know these guys fit right in with what they do. I liked Pollards hitting but he was often a non-factor. Williams was agood DB in the Raven system but if you dont stop the run he will get killed if isolated and without pressure. Consadine can play. hes not a marquee name but he will hit and he is serviceable. I dont think he is any worse than Nate allen?
  • Considine can play??? Yeah I'm sure he's an upgrade over Ed Reed! LOL
  • He's reaching just like he usually does when he loses an argument (pretty much all the time). He keeps ignoring my main point...the only point I was trying to make. Every player the Eagles lose is a big deal in his mind no matter who he is (right down to Stewart Bradley who he called an old injured nag when he was in Philly). He doesn't even get that his stating that the Ravens replacing the players they lost with mediocre talent (besides Dumervil) is actually helping my argument and not his (yeah, I'm clueless...LOL).

Keep proving my point for me, hollywood. Keep telling us how Reed and Pollard will be replaced by the likes of Sean Considine while you whine that the Eagles are cutting ties with average Mike Patterson, overpaid and underwhelming Asomugha and never should have been signed Demetress Bell. Do you truly believe the crap you type?
  • LOL Hollywood spent months defending McNabb when the Eagles were going to trade him, and that after he called him an idiot and terrible leader. I don't see how Hollywood can call himself an Eagles fan when he hates everything green to the point of Boycotting it. LOL
  • The Eagles have had more than enough talent at QB to win it all. Fact is they dont want too. Now get out there and buy your season ticket. By the way I called him a fool for not calling out the coach and management. They never gave him the resources. If I was an up and coming QB I might avoid a few places but one place I would avoid for sure is Philly.
  • Hey maybe your favorite team (Ravens) can go and sign the greatest running back in football (as per you in Beanie Wells) too. Then they really would be unstoppable!
  • Ozzie Newsome has don it again! Baltimore now has Micheal Huff. Huff has played both CB and FS for Oakland, but was a much better FS than a CB. (In my opinion anyway.)

If the Ravens are smart (and they are) Huff will play FS and take up the slack created by Ed Reed's departure. If the Ravens let him roam like they let Reed, this deal could be an absolute steal for them.
  • I told you the Ravens are gonna shock everyone by getting right back on top. Ozzie knows he has in Flacco
