Erick Aybar showed some hustle while beating out an infield single last night. Unfortunately the cost of doing so was a bruised foot. Aybar had to leave the game after the play last night against the Oakland Athletics. Angels trainers came out and examined him, then Aybar headed to the bench.
According to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, Aybar has been diagnosed with a left heel contusion. He is listed as day-to-day, but he will likely be available to play today. The Angels received bad news on the injury front with Jered Weaver's broken elbow, so it's fortunate that Aybar's injury is not worse.
Aybar has been productive in his seven years with the Angels leading into this season. Including this year, his eighth in the big leagues, Aybar is a career .279/.320/.387 hitter. He is hitting .321/.333/.393 so far in this young season.
The Angels replaced Aybar with Brendan Harris. If Aybar can't go tonight, Los Angeles will likely send Harris out there again. Harris drove in a run last night and scored two runs of his own.
