Found September 27, 2013 on The 6th Sens:
PLAYERS: Gary Bettman
TEAMS: Ottawa Senators
At a ribbon cutting ceremony on Sens Mile this afternoon, Eugene Melnyk made a number of interesting comments to media regarding his and the organization’s financial wherewithal. You can find a full transcript of the Euge’s comments on the Senators’ official blog ‘Inside the Senate’ (which by the way is maintained by Chris Lund who’s doing some excellent work for the organization), but you can read what I found interesting below. As always, my thoughts are in bold. On if the budget will change for potential rental players: “We're already are over budget, I just found out yesterday, but as I said we'll do whatever it takes. We've got to be smart about it, I'm not a big fan of rentals, but if we need to fill a spot I'll leave that to Bryan (Murray) to come back and say this could make a big difference for us, especially if we need to fill a spot so that's not beyond the realm of reality that we have to live with. Jason Spezza among notable names on high-risk, high-reward fantasy hockey draft list

Jason Spezza, C, Ottawa Senators There is no doubting Spezza’s skill. He has 146 points over his last 147 games. In fact, he has 673 points in 667 career games, including playoffs. I worry about his healthy, I really do. He has missed 65 games over the last three years. Spezza who had surgery on his back and knee last season, has suited up in only two pre-season games and he...

He was drafted there in 2005, but he’s been back to the city only once, with the Ducks, scoring the winner in a shootout a couple of years ago. At this point, Bobby Ryan is just a...

Melnyk High on Sens, Low on Cash?

Senators owner Eugene Melnyk spoke to the media at the opening of the 'Sens Mile' on Ottawa's Elgin Street today.  There were a few questions about the team on the ice, and how far they might be able to go in the reorganized Atlantic division after losing Daniel Alfredsson and adding Bobby Ryan in the off-season, but there were even more questions about the owner&...

J.O.B. Looking for a Job

Drafted in the first round of the 2007 NHL, Jim O’Brien may have the distinction of being Bryan Murray’s first ever draft selection as GM of the Ottawa Senators, but you would be a fool not to think of him as one of the last remaining remnants of the John Muckler era. Talking to reporters at a media availability back in January of 2011, Murray made reference to the prospects...
