In an interview with Andy Staples of Sports Illustrated, former Notre Dame Quarterback Everett Golson admitted to cheating while attending Notre Dame. Golson helped lead the Fighting Irish to an undefeated season and a National Championship appearance in 2012. In May, it was revealed that Everett had been suspended for his fall semester. The suspension made him ineligible for football this season. After being suspended, Golson released the following statement via ESPN.com: I have been informed by the University of Notre Dame that due to my poor academic judgment that I have been suspended from the University for the 2013 Fall Term. I take full responsibility for my poor choices and will do all that is asked of me to regain the trust of my family, friends, teammates, coaches and the entire Notre Dame community. In the interview, Golson never gets specific about exactly what happened but he did say it had something to do with an exam. Staples asked him about why he never pursued a JUCO transfer Golson had this to say: My heart was set on going back to Notre Dame. Not necessarily to prove [anything] to anybody—just doing it for me. I felt like that’s something that I started, and I didn’t want to run away from…I was gonna face it.   Everett also talked about how hard it is for him to watch the Irish play without him. He said he has been working with George Whitfield, a well-known and respected quarterback guru. Whitfield has helped Golson alter some of his throwing mechanics. Golson claims he will return to school a “More Polished Individual,” and his focus is on improvement in both the classroom and football. Without Golson, Notre Dame is 6-2 with Tommy Rees at the helm. They’re No.25 in the BCS rankings, but it’s obvious this team misses Golson. Personally, I hope he gets it right. He is a fun player to watch and I never want to see anyone throw his or her career away over a dumb mistake.
