Atlanta Falcons coach Mike Smith provided some good news for his team when he announced on Wednesday that he expects his team's best pass-rusher, John Abraham, to be in the starting lineup for Sunday's NFC championship game against the San Francisco 49ers. However, Abraham did not practice on Wednesday, and the Falcons are making contingency plans in case Abraham cannot play. Abraham sat out most of last weekend's victory over the Seattle Seahawks after re-injuring his ankle, and the Falcons' lack of a pass rush was evident as Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson led a comeback. The Falcons need the pass-rushing skills of Abraham to help contain 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Abraham had 10 sacks during the season.

Matt Bryant channeled his inner Happy Gilmore before game-winning kick

The Atlanta Falcons got the monkey off their backs on Sunday by winning their first playoff game since 2004, and kicker Matt Bryant deserves much of the credit. Fan Post: No More Monkeys, No More Demons

Editor Note: the wild playoff win this weekend over the Seattle Seahawks inspired long-time Altanta Falcons fan Alex Webster to write about the great Falcons win: I have been a Falcons fan since the early 70's when my dad would take me to see them perpetually lose in the old Atlanta Fulton County baseball stadium. NFC Championship Game: 49ers @ Falcons Preview & Prediction

It’s hard to believe that it doesn’t happen more often, but the two top seeds in the NFC did their job; they protected home field and have advanced to meet each other for the right to head to New Orleans as the NFC representative in the Super Bowl. With a dominating performance over my preseason Super Bowl pick, the Niners demolished the Packers to head to Atlanta to take on...

NFC Championship Preview: San Francisco 49ers at Atlanta Falcons

Finally, the NFC is down to the two final teams that many had been anticipating for quite some time. While I had the Niners getting bounced last week just like I had back in the preseason, I still believed the Falcons would find a way to get the job done. They have done just that and now they have to take on arguably the best team in all of football. Their defense is flat out dirty...

New England, Atlanta Super Bowl is the logical prediction

It may seem a bit like dodging a pair of difficult questions, but a Patriots, Falcons Super Bowl makes too much sense to ignore. The simple justification for such a prediction is that those teams are fielding the best quarterbacks this weekend, but really, there's much more to it than that. While Tom Brady and Matt Ryan may be the best passers this weekend, their defenses will...
