Today's installment of Choose Your Quarterback pits Aaron Rodgers vs. Peyton Manning, the Nos. 1 and 3 assets in my rankings of the 32 presumed starting quarterbacks. Here's a week-by-week fantasy breakdown of Manning vs. Rodgers, just in case you're torn on which quarterback to grab in Round 1: Week 1Manning (vs. Baltimore) over Rodgers (@ San Francisco) Week 2Manning (@ N.Y. Giants) over Rodgers (vs. Washington) Week 3Manning (vs. Oakland) over Rodgers (@ Cincinnati) Week 4Manning (vs. Philadelphia) over Rodgers (BYE) Week 5Rodgers (vs. Detroit) over Manning (@ Dallas) Week 6Manning (vs. Jacksonville) over Rodgers (@ Baltimore) Week 7Manning (@ Indianapolis) over Rodgers (vs. Cleveland) Week 8Rodgers (@ Minnesota) over Manning (vs. Washington) Week 9Rodgers (vs. Chicago) over Manning (BYE) Week 10Rodgers (vs. Philadelphia) over Manning (@ San Diego) Week 11Rodgers (@ N.Y. Giants) over Manning (vs. Kansas City) Week 12Manning (@ New England) over Rodgers (vs. Minnesota) Week 13Rodgers (@ Detroit) over Manning (@ Kansas City) Week 14Rodgers (vs. Atlanta) over Manning (vs. Tennessee) Week 15Manning (vs. San Diego) over Rodgers (@ Dallas) Week 16Rodgers (vs. Pittsburgh) over Manning (@ Houston) Week 17Manning (@ Oakland) over Rodgers (@ Chicago)Final Tally Manning pulls off the upset, 9-8 Breakdown 1. We're splitting hairs with the matchups from Weeks 2, 8, 10, 12, 13, 14 and 16, reiterating just how close Rodgers (4,295 yards passing and 41 total TDs last year) and Rodgers (4,659 yards passing, 37 TDs) should be during the August drafts. 2. It's not a blowout in his favor, but Manning seems to have an easier schedule than Rodgers aided by six games against the AFC West, four against the AFC South, four against the NFC East and a pair of doable outings with the Patriots and Ravens (revenge match). 3. How's this for weird? In his Choose Your Quarterback battle with Drew Brees back in May ... Rodgers also got trumped for Weeks 1-4. Of course, in that case, he rallied to knock off the Saints quarterback. 4. Here's something in Rodgers' favor: He gets the nod for three of the four fantasy-playoff periods over Manning (Weeks 13-16), including Fantasy Bowl Week (vs. Pittsburgh). 5. From my perspective, Denver can look forward to approximately 13 weather-friendly games this year, more than Green Bay. 6. You really can't go wrong with either quarterback at the top of the draft. Both have a top-five receiving corps, rock-solid tight ends and young tailbacks. Plus, in one six-game stretch last year, Rodgers accounted for 22 touchdowns (and per-outing averages of 273 yards passing) ... while Manning notched eight straight games of 300 yards passing andor three TD passes for the first time in his Hall of Fame-worthy career.
