ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Viktor Fasth stopped three of six shootout attempts to become the first NHL goalie in eight years to win his first five starts, and Bobby Ryan had two goals and two assists as the Anaheim Ducks beat the struggling St. Louis Blues 6-5 on Saturday night. Fasth, who began the game first in the NHL with a 1.06 goals-against average and a .957 save percentage, allowed five goals on 31 shots. Nolan Schaefer won his first five starts for San Jose in 2005. Teemu Selanne had a goal and three assists, Andrew Cogliano and Saku Koivu also scored, and Nick Bonino netted the deciding tally in the shootout for the Ducks on their sixth attempt. David Backes, Chris Stewart and Alexander Steen each had a goal and an assist for the Blues, who have dropped four straight. David Perron and T.J. Oshie also scored. While Fasth is soaring, St. Louis' Brian Elliott continued to struggle. After leading the NHL in GAA and save percentage last season, Elliott was 39th and 42nd in those...

Anaheim Takes Down Blues 6-5 in Shootout

You could describe the game between the St. Louis Blues and the Anaheim Ducks with a lot of phrases and words.  Wild.  Unpredictable.  Back and forth.  High scoring.  Error filled.  Wacky.    The ones the coaches would use would be more colorful.   The most important description?  Ducks win 6-5 in a shootout.    From the way it began, you would not have guessed...

Halak, 27, has appeared in five games this season posting a 3-0-0 record including a 2.10 goals...

Blues activate Halak from IR

The St. Louis Blues have activated goalie Jaroslav Halak from injured reserve, a signal that struggling Brian Elliott is headed for some time on the bench. Halak is 3-0 with a 2.10 goals-against average and two shutouts this season. He had been sidelined by a groin strain. Coach Ken Hitchcock said Saturday that if Halak wasn't ready in time for Monday night's game against...

Stars Stymie Anaheim 3-1

You cannot win them all.  But you should at least give every game your best effort.  The Ducks failed to give their best effort against the Dallas Stars and it cost them in the 3-1 defeat. They did not play their best in Colorado, either, but Viktor Fasth was able to shut out the Avalanche and Anaheim was still able to pull off a win.   Against Dallas, the second game of...

‘Déjà Vu All Over Again’ for St. Louis Blues Ken Hitchcock?

Ken Hitchcock and the St. Louis Blues, hot off of their stellar 2011-2012 season, thundered out of the gate in the shortened 2013 (2012-2013) campaign, posting a 6-1-0 record.  However, during the past four games, they’ve posted a 0-3-1 mark, the last three games of which have been at the once-friendly confines of Scottrade Center in St. Louis. Ken Hitchcock has seen this before...

Cat doesn't want to be bothered while watching hockey game

Check out this fat cat sitting on a sofa contently watching hockey until his pesky caretaker comes along with a camera.  The cat looks totally chill — watching the NHL game on TV — until the guy asks his furry bud if he likes the Ducks. The feline's stare says it all. Of course he likes the Ducks.  He's a cat and cats like birds. He likes the Penguins too.  And he...

Johan Franzen receives match penalty and is ejected for spearing David Perron

This was an extremely stupid thing for Detroit Red Wings forward Johan Franzen to do.  I understand he was upset that St. Louis Blues forward David Perron hit him when his back was turned, but that is still no excuse for turning around and spearing Perron right in the midsection.  Perron was already going to be assessed a boarding penalty for the hit on Franzen and went to the...
