The Philadelphia Flyers have reportedly re-signed Wayne Simmonds.

The contract is a six-year contract extension, worth around $4 million per year. He would have been a restricted free agent after this season had he not signed this new extension.

Of all the forwards, he’s going to now be paid just behind Danny Briere, who makes $7 million this upcoming season. His new contract will take place after his current contract ends at the end of this upcoming season, where he makes $1.75 million.

It was an early birthday gift, as he turns 24 on August 26th. In four NHL seasons with the Los Angeles Kings and Flyers, he has 67 goals and 142 points in 332 games.

This past season, he had a career-high 28 goals, with 11 coming on the power play. He also had 21 assists in his first season after being acquired by the Flyers from the Kings in the Mike Richards deal.
