A federal judge in Florida sentenced a former NFL player to more than three years in prison for his involvement in a tax fraud scheme.
Freddie Mitchell last played wide receiver with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2004.
His attorney, Rick Jancha, said Tuesday that Mitchell was sentenced to 37 months in prison after previously pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to file a false claim. He faced a maximum 10 years in prison. His sentence begins Dec. 6.
Prosecutors say Mitchell and two others schemed to file a false tax return for another professional athlete.
The 34-year-old Mitchell told the athlete, only identified as ''A.G.,'' that he could help him get a bigger tax refund from the IR.S. He and two associates then filed a return on behalf of A.G. that contained blatantly false information.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback seemed just fine enough to take the field on Sunday vs. the New York Giants, participating in full practice earlier in the week and making sure put his injured hamstring through some tests for certainty. But nothing is a better indication of how a particular body part responds than a good old fashioned actual football game, and Vick's hamstring...
Who would have thought that through the midpoint of the season, we’d be complaining about the Eagles offense and praising the defense? Not me, but that’s just where we are right now. The Eagles hit the halfway point with a record of 3-5 and a ton of questions about their offense.
Although the Eagles’ ground game has struggled in recent weeks, the biggest question mark is around...
According to Howard Eskin of FOX 29 Philly, Nick Foles will likely get the start this week for the Eagles.

Even though Mike Vick has paid his debt to society for his involvement in the dogfighting ring, there are people that will never get past it. Vick was just voted the NFL’s #1 disliked player again and now Dobbie’s, a Philly bar will not show Eagles games until Vick is gone from the team. The owner Patty Brett had this to say:
“Because of what Michael Vick has done to those...

Foles is the only choice the Eagles have right now with Michael Vick injured and Matt Barkley struggling as a rookie.
Nick Foles will be back at quarterback for the Eagles when they play the Raiders on Sunday.
Two weeks after suffering a concussion, Foles will start in place of Michael Vick, who is out for the second time this season with a hamstring injury. Rookie Matt Barkley will be Foles' backup vs. Oakland (3-4).
Eagles coach Chip Kelly made the announcement Wednesday after watching Foles...
The Eagles sit at the halfway point of the season with a 3-5 record. This is exactly where I expected the Eagles to be, although the route to get there was different.
There have been surprises, both good and bad, during the first half of the Eagles season. LeSean McCoy has been the Eagles MVP throughout the first half and will continue to be a workhorse as the Eagles sit just one...
Nick Foles has been named the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Chip Kelly announced in his weekly press conference that Foles will be the starting quarterback and he will take first-team reps this week.
“I was really happy with how Nick practiced on (Tuesday),” Kelly said.
“Nick did a really good job. Nick is going to be our starting quarterback this week,...

Although the Eagles suffered a very disappointing loss on Sunday to the Giants, but there was one positive about the game. I was able to attend as a guest of Verizon and had the opportunity to demo a Moto X by Motorola.
As an iPhone user, I was a little skeptical about how much I’d like the Android operating system. However, I found it to be very easy to navigate and quite fast...

The Pats needed help at DT with Vince Wilfork out for the year. Good trade for them.
And as expected, Eagles traded DT Isaac Sopoaga and a pick to the Patriots for a higher pick.
