Kyle McCarthy played parts of four seasons in the NFL with the Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders. Over the course of those four seasons, McCarthy appeared in a total of 12 games.  The 27-year-old Notre Dame grad, who was last on a NFL roster in 2013 with Oakland, announced on Wednesday that he has been diagnosed with cancer. A few weeks ago I was diagnosed with a very treatable form of cancer,” McCarthy said. “Yesterday, I began chemotherapy as the next step in eliminating this disease. I’m truly blessed to have such amazing love and support from family and friends. Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers over the last few weeks. I expect a full recovery and look forward to returning to the team during and after my treatment. Go Irish! McCarthy called was just recently hired on as a graduate assistant and safeties coach at Notre Dame. Notre Dame had this to say about the former football standout in South Bend. We continue to be amazed by former captain Kyle McCarthy’s fortitude as he continues to help the team while battling cancer. Our thoughts and prayers are definitely with McCarthy as he battles the toughest test of his life. The post Former NFL Safety has Cancer appeared first on Sportsnaut.com.
