Found June 15, 2012 on Seattle Sports Nut:

Kevin Ellison, a former player for the San Diego Chargers as well as the Seattle Seahawks, was arrested for arson today in his current town of Liberty Lake, Washington.  Ellison was a former player for Pete Carroll at USC, before being drafted in 2009 in the sixth round by the San Diego Chargers.  In 2010, Ellison was reunited with Pete Carroll, and joined the Seahawks, but was soon cut before the season started. Ellison is listed as a LB with the Spokane Shock, a local AFL team.

Firefighters were responding to a different incidence when they got diverted to this fire, they almost missed it completely.  Spokane Valley Fire Departments responded swiftly.

“Upon arrival Engine 3 found flames showing from a 3rd floor apartment,” Spokane fire department stated. “An offensive attack was initiated while occupants were being evacuated from adjacent apartments. Liberty Lake Police Officers assisted fire crews with evacuation and laying hose lines. The fire was knocked down quickly and did not extend into the attic space.  The occupant of the apartment jumped from the 3rd floor window. He was treated for smoke inhalation and transported to the hospital. There were no other injuries.”

Initial interviews with Ellison, he stated that he had fallen asleep with a cigarette in his hand.  Fire investigators soon found out that something didn’t quite add up.

While being questioned a second time at the local hospital, Ellison stated he ”set the bed on fire because God told me to”  Ellison continued this story until being advised by a family member, and immediately after chose to remain silent.

Komonews.com reported that Ellison has been with the Spokane Shock for six weeks, and has been a standout player, according to Brady Nelson, the owner of the Spokane Shock.  “I think the investigation needs to play out, but if he truly did this he’s never coming back,” Nelson said.  In the past few weeks, the coaches had reported that Ellison had been a little weird.  Ellison had been sending out text messages saying that “He was Jesus, and was part of the second coming.

Ellison was arrested after speaking with fire investigators at the hospital, and was booked on charges of felony arson.  Damages to the apartment are estimated to be near $50,000. Ellison has been ordered to remain behind bars until U.S. Magistrate Cynthia Imbrogno decides whether he should be let out on bail, that date is set for June 19th.
