Diamondbacks ponder Daniel Hudson situation

It has been more than a season and a half since right-hander Daniel Hudson last pitched in a major-league game but baseball’s salary structure isn’t entirely mindful of such things. While on the disabled list recovering from his first and then second Tommy John elbow surgeries Hudson has been accumulating major-league service time and next season as a player with three-plus...

Seeking big finish, Montero has big game in loss

PHOENIX -- Miguel Montero was not feeling all that great Friday, but it was difficult to tell. Montero had one of his best games in what has been a difficult season, although it was not enough to get the Diamondbacks past the Rockies.Montero shortened his stroke after a talk with manager Kirk Gibson in Los Angeles earlier in the week, and it served him well. He reached base all five...

Diamondbacks beat Dodgers 4-1 to stop 5-game skid

Paul Goldschmidt went 4 for 5 and drove in a pair of runs to help the Arizona Diamondbacks beat Los Angeles 4-1 Wednesday night, snapping a five-game skid against the Dodgers and avoiding a sweep. Patrick Corbin (14-6) ended a three-game losing streak while improving to 2-0 in three starts at Dodger Stadium. The left-hander allowed one run and eight hits in 6 1-3 innings, striking...

Revisiting Patrick Corbin

I’ve written about Patrick Corbin here at The Fix before. I decided to revisit Mr. Corbin after a Twitter conversation between myself and Fangraphs’ Eno Sarris last night. Basically the conversation went a little something like this. Eno made the point that Patrick Corbin doesn’t seem to be elite at any facet of pitching. I was inclined to agree, without looking, that he seemed...

Ryu touched up in loss to Diamondbacks

Dbacks get lots of runners, not enough runs vs Rox

The Arizona Diamondbacks had 20 baserunners Friday night. That wasn't enough to top the Colorado Rockies. Corey Dickerson's unlikely double on a pitch that bounced in front of the plate started a five-run seventh inning and the Rockies went on to beat the Diamondbacks 7-5. Arizona had 12 hits and walked eight times but fell behind 7-2 before Miguel Montero's two-out...

Rockies-Diamondbacks Preview

The Arizona Diamondbacks have not fared well at home of late. A visit from the struggling Colorado Rockies could change that. Looking to get back on track at Chase Field, the Diamondbacks try for a sixth consecutive home victory over the Rockies on Friday night. Arizona (73-72) has totaled 16 runs while losing five of seven at home. The Diamondbacks concluded a 3-4 trip with a...

Scott Van Slyke's home run propels Dodgers past Diamondbacks, 5-3

With the Arizona Diamondbacks in town this week the Dodgers asked the visiting manager to speak about a home run he hit 25 years ago at a Tuesday news conference. Kirk Gibson's home run in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series is the most famous home run in Dodgers history. But images of Gibson limping around the bases and pumping his fist are also a constant reminder that the Dodgers...

Thinking big: Goldy, D-backs return home to face Rockies

No one is less concerned about personal statistics than Paul Goldschmidt, as we have come to learn, but that has not stopped his bat from talking. With a big finish, Goldschmidt can become the third player in the last four years to lead the National League in both home runs and RBIs. The Cardinals' Albert Pujols did it in 2010, and the Dodgers' Matt Kemp followed in 2011...
