Chael Sonnen may have gone too far this time. The former middleweight and light-heavyweight title contender made the alleged comment on last night’s edition of ‘FOX Sports Live’ alluding to a domestic violence issue related to pop sensation Rihanna. “Look, Floyd needs to keep doing what he’s doing, which is fighting complete tomato cans that we’ve never heard of before, ” Sonnen said. “I’ve never seen anybody in the history of America get so rich and so famous off of having complete wimps throwing punch at their faces. I know what you’re saying. You’re saying, ‘Well it’s happened before, what about Rihanna?’” The comment was apparently in reference to Rihanna’s domestic assault incident with Chris Brown in 2009. It was a poor choice of humour from Sonnen and warranted an apology from the sports network.
