ATLANTA FOX Sports South analyst Larry Conley, whose exemplary work in college-hoops broadcasting transcends four decades, has been elected into the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame. Conley's July 20 induction will mark the Kentucky institution's 100th anniversary, as he and former University of Tennessee All-American (and NBA star) Allan Houston headline a 17-member class into the Hall of Fame, based in Elizabethtown, Ky. Conley's standout hoops career began at Ashland High School, during the late 1950s and early 60s. He then attended the University of Kentucky, playing for legendary coach Adolph Rupp. For Conley's senior season, the Wildcats lost to Texas Western (now UTEP) in the 1966 NCAA title game a landmark event, as Texas Western became the first championship team in NCAA history to field an all-black starting lineup. (This game was the driving force behind the 2006 movie, Glory Road.) As a pro, Conley played one season (1967-68) for the American Basketball Association's Kentucky Colonels. His post-retirement broadcasting career includes stints with ESPN, NBC, CBS, ABC, Raycom Sports and, of course, Fox Sports. Conley will be the color analyst for Saturday's Auburn-Mississippi State game, Fox Sports South's SEC season finale.
