It was a Freaky Friday for Mark Sanchez , as the Jets QB had flashbacks of last spring, when a big-name QB was headed to town to take his job.
Last year it was Tim Tebow. This year it's Geno Smith, the equally enigmatic QB whom the Jets drafted with the 39th pick , setting off a storm of sentiment that Sanchez is headed out of New York .
The mock tweets were flowing soon after the Jets picked Geno .
Tebow just watched with his helmet off. RT @ adam_jacobi : Mark Sanchez just threw his remote at the TV and missed by 7 feet.

Poor, poor Mark Sanchez (OK, so he's not poor. He's filthy rich). Things were bad enough, coming off the worst season of his four-year career, dealing with competition from noodle-armed Tebow -- and the circus that followed -- and ultimately losing his job to rookie Greg McElroy. Then Sanchez saw his team sign veteran QB David Garrard, who hasn't played since 2010.
Man, those back-to-back AFC Ch...

Geno Smith is heading to New York, and Mark Sanchez may be on his way out.
The Jets added another high-profile quarterback Friday, drafting the West Virginia standout Smith in the second round. That gives them an even bigger logjam at QB, and ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the team will consider cutting Sanchez, its high-priced starting QB.
Sanchez, who got a five-year,...
According to ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio, now that the New York Jets have drafted quarterback Geno Smith, they are thinking about releasing Mark Sanchez with a post June 1st designation. Below is an explanation of how releasing Sanchez after June 1st helps the Jets. What we are talking about here deals strictly with the acceleration of prorated bonus money onto the current years salary...
Anibal Sanchez struck out 17 in eight marvelous innings for Detroit, confounding the Atlanta Braves in a dazzling performance Friday night and leading the Tigers to a 10-0 victory.
Sanchez set a team record for strikeouts in a nine-inning game, and he had a mathematical chance of tying the major league mark of 20 when he was pulled after eight innings and 121 pitches. Sanchez (3...
Jonathan Sanchez has at least one more start before Francisco Liriano returns. Photo credit: David Hague
Francisco Liriano had a great start on Thursday. He threw five innings for Indianapolis, allowing one run on four hits, with no walks and eight strikeouts.
Jonathan Sanchez didn’t have a good start on Friday. He was ejected from his start after allowing two homers in the first...
Just as I thought I could discontinue referring to the New York Jets as a mess, I believe John Idzik has a little bit of Mike Tannenbaum in him, and enjoys the circus atmosphere.
Bob Glauber of Newsday is reporting that according to a source close to the situation, the Jets will hold on to Mark Sanchez until the preseason at least.
League source: #Jets expected to retain QB Mark...
Mark Sanchez will remain the quarterback of the New York Jets for the immediate future, and a coming back from injury Santonio Holmes remains his only ‘weapon’ on offense. Granted there are still 6 rounds remaining in the 2013 NFL Draft, but with the lack of talent depth in it, the Jets wasted an opportunity to try to bring in a playmaker offensively to help out the offense....
Anibal Sanchez had a huge game against the Braves, striking out 17 batters over eight innings of work. Read more about the start.
Friday was either a very good day or a very, very bad day to be named Sanchez in the sports world, as Sanchez stars from New York to Detroit to St. Louis had some of the best and worst evenings in the history of professional athletics.
There was more to boo than there was to cheer for the Sanchez contingent, but for the sake of keeping things light off the bat, we'll start with...
The economics of such a move would mean the Jets would be carrying a lot of dead money for a couple of years. With that being said, if they want to have a fresh start, they have to get rid of some of their quarterbacks.
If they believe Geno is indeed the man, having Sanchez on the roster is only going to make the Jets a bigger circus than they already are.
It will be interesting...

The New York Jets have a flare for the dramatics in every aspect of football; except for the field of play itself. With a surprising move, the New York Jets have drafted West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith.Smith (who threw 42 touchdowns for West Virginia last season) was projected to the the No. 1 quarterback taken in the draft. However the Jets have another QB on the roster; the...
The Jets snagged West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith with the seventh pick of the second round (39th overall).Fantasy Spin:ESPN's Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter suggested that this move could represent the end of the Mark Sanchez Era in New York. With Smith, Sanchez, David Garrard and Tim Tebow all on the Jets' roster, head coach Rex Ryan will have a big decision to make...
After a nice start to their ten-game road trip, the Pirates are now entering the portion of the trip that I'm most interested in: six games in St. Louis and Milwaukee. The division has a new shape this year without the Astros in it and how the Pirates play the NL Central teams is going to go a long ways towards deciding how 2013 shakes out for the Pirates.
Plus if the Pirates...

My Twitter timeline exploded in laughter as soon as the New York Jets selected West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith. It wasn't because of Geno.
Quarterback confusion is the distinguishing hallmark of the Jets. Five are already...
Geno Smith says his goal is to be ''a franchise quarterback,'' but acknowledges he has lots of work to do to get there with the New York Jets.
The former West Virginia star slid out of the first round of the NFL draft and was taken by the Jets on Friday night as a second-round pick. While he acknowledges at his introductory news conference at the Jets' practice...
