Oregon Ducks quarterback Marcus Mariota has emerged as a potential top draft choice in next year's draft, but will the Eagles take the plunge on the quarterback Chip Kelly coached and recruited? Photo Courtesy: FishDuck.com  Each Friday morning we will select some of the top questions we receive on Twitter and give them the kind of insight and analysis that can't fit within 140 characters. To have your question asked simply tweet it to @MattLombardo975 or@EagledelphiaPA and check back each Friday morning to see if it makes the cut!  From Donte Knox on Facebook: I know the future quarterback is not on the roster right now so will Chip Kelly spend a first round pick on Mariota or Manziel? Unfortunately what we learned from Nick Foles disastrous 80-yard passing performance last Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys is that he likely is no longer the franchise quarterback of the future. Rest assured, the Eagles kept him this offseason rather than trade him because they believed there was a chance he could fill that role.  One thing is obvious, a 34-year old injury riddled Michael Vick is not the future beyond this season, even if Foles' gaffes exposed that the 24-year old cannot be trusted as the best suited quarterback for this team this season.  That leaves the Eagles in the difficult position of needing to target and select a franchise quarterback in the first round of the draft.  Names such as Manziel and Mariota have been bandied about since the preseason, head coach Chip Kelly has even mentioned him by name unprovoked several times this season. However, the Eagles will likely be competing with teams such as the Jacksonville Jaguars, Minnesota Vikings and Oakland Raiders among others for a draft choice high enough to select one of the premier prospects.  To that end, general manager Howie Roseman and the front office could package draft picks and perhaps even a player such as running back LeSean McCoy - who is approaching the point of his career where running backs begin to break down - and mercurial wide receiver DeSean Jackson who is effectively in the last year of his contract as well as Foles to move up into a position where they can realistically come away with one of the top quarterbacks.  The Washington Redskins gave up three first-round draft picks as well as a second rounder for Robert Griffin III, and the Atlanta Falcons gave away a bounty of five picks to be able to select Julio Jones.  At this point it appears not a matter of if the Eagles will deal for a franchise quarterback of the future, but what they could conceivably need to give up to acquire one.  Matt Lombardo is the Editor-In-Chief of Eagledelphia and also an on-air personality on 97.5 FM The Fanatic in Philadelphia. Why Marcus Mariota is nation's top QB

Last season, more than most that I can recall, the stable of signal callers in college football lacked sure-fire studs. Only one quarterback went in the first round of the NFL draft (Florida State's EJ Manuel). This year, however, there's a quiver full of quality quarterbacks who could be targeted for the first round. When was the last time we had this many lead horses in...

Despite some reports that Michael Vick will start this week for the Eagles matchup with the Giants,  head coach Chip Kelly still hasn’t committed to him yet. Oregon Proves A Point Against UCLA: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

It had the makings of a very good game. The Oregon Ducks and UCLA Bruins looked as evenly matched as two teams could in the first half, trading shots back and forth like prize fighters, taking a 14-14 tie into halftime. For a team that averaged at least 45 points a contest all season long, the Ducks looked like they had finally met their match. Then the second half happened. Oregon...

Top QB in next NFL draft

Who is the top QB for the next NFL draft?  Last season, it was a scramble to find good talent coming out of college into the pros.  I think everyone expected to have an Luck, RGIII and Wilson again in that draft and the well was dry.  Good news for NFL scouts and GM’s looking to find a franchise QB in this upcoming draft. You have several QB to choose from: Teddy Bridgewater...

Oregon dominates second half in rout

Heading into halftime locked at 14-all with UCLA, No. 2 Oregon didn't panic. The Ducks knew they'd eventually wear down the No. 14 Bruins. Because that's what they do. "We understand that our tempo is one of our greatest allies," sophomore quarterback Marcus Mariota said. Oregon went on to score 28 unanswered points in the second half and beat UCLA 42-14 on...

Eagles QB Vick practices again

Eagles coach Chip Kelly won't admit it, but it's appearing more and more likely that Michael Vick will start on Sunday, when the Giants come to Lincoln Financial Field. Vick on Thursday practiced successfully for a third straight day and is set to undergo his toughest physical challenge of the week Friday when he'll test out his hamstring for the first time since he...

Eagles offense not complicated, says Giants defensive back Terrell Thomas

The big bad light-speed Chip Kelly offense isn’t so complicated after all. That’s what Giants corner Terrell Thomas thinks. The Eagles’ fast break attack yeah the same one that torched Big Blue for 439 total yards in Philly’s 36-21 win on Oct. 6 has taken the NFL by storm but Thomas said Wednesday that he’s not worried about it or big-play receiver DeSean Jackson either...

Philadelphia Eagles: Should They Consider Vince Young?

The Philadelphia Eagles' offense looked explosive in their season opener as they defeated the Washington Redskins, 33-27. Chip Kelly utilized the read option in his spread offense, making great use of Michael Vick and LeSean McCoy's speed. While the Eagles have a losing record of 3-4, they aren't as bad as most NFL fans expected they would be, and this is only Chip Kelly...
