The San Diego Chargers have a long list of injuries heading into Sunday's home game against Baltimore. The wobbly Chargers (4-6) are in dire need of a victory to keep their slim playoff hopes alive after losing two straight games and five of six. ''Obviously, we are playing one of the better teams in the league,'' coach Norv Turner said Wednesday. ''They are a balanced team that is very good on defense. We have a lot to prepare for and we're excited about returning home.'' If they are going to upset the powerful Ravens (8-2) they'll likely need a boost from some backups, particularly on the left side of the offensive line. Left tackle Jared Gaither (groin) didn't practice Wednesday and his track record suggests he's a long shot to heal in time to face the team that drafted him. If Gaither can't go, the task of helping stop the Ravens' versatile pass rush falls on undrafted rookie Michael Harris. Left guard Tyronne Green, another key member of the Chargers' offensive line, didn't work either, sidelined by a hamstring injury. If Green can't play, veteran left guard Rex Hadnot would get his first start of the season. ''Michael Harris is one of the two guys on the left and he is healthy and playing,'' Turner said. ''He is learning; it's been quite an experience for him and us as he played and made progress. It is a real challenge for him each week he goes against some of the best players in the NFL. I do believe he is doing everything he can to meet that challenge.'' The Chargers' pass protection has been among their glaring weaknesses. With two starters possibly out against a Ravens' pass rush, which features Terrell Suggs, the Chargers could be hard-pressed to present quarterback Philip Rivers with a clean pocket. Cornerback Quentin Jammer, who left Sunday's loss in Denver because of a calf injury, practiced Wednesday and should start against the Ravens. But defensive tackle Aubrayo Franklin was unable to practice and indications are he will miss another game with a knee injury. Antonio Garay would fill in. Wide receiver Eddie Royal (hamstring), tight end Dante Rosario (hamstring) and linebacker Larry English (calf) were limited to side work.

Chargers Have Black Friday Sale at Team Store, So Fans Naturally Use It to Complain About Norv Turner, Team

NFL teams have become adept at using social media to connect with their fan bases. But at some point, when seasons are going really, really bad, they have to know that posting anything – from charity events to team merchandise discounts — is going to get some backlash. That’s what happened this week with the San Diego Chargers, who decided to have a nice Black Friday sale....

San Diego Chargers: Week 12 NFL Power Rankings (#17)

Last week: 17 (+0) Record: 4-6 I think it’s time for the Chargers to go on their annual late season run. Unfortunately, just like the last 2 seasons, probably all this late season run is going to end up doing is saving Norv Turner’s and AJ Smith’s job and not actually help them make the playoffs. This week, they play Baltimore, who is overrated and generally struggles on the...

Ravens way of Rivers in rematch with Chargers

The Baltimore Ravens usually have a tough time against San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers. Fortunately, they won't have to face him Sunday without safety Ed Reed as the last line of defense. Reed, an eight-time Pro Bowl star, was suspended for one game on Monday for repeated helmet-to-helmet hits. He appealed the suspension and on Tuesday the punishment was reduced...

The San Diego Chargers have placed offensive tackle Jared Gaither (groin) on injured reserve. Baltimore Ravens at San Diego Chargers: Week 12 NFL Pick

Baltimore Ravens (8-2) at San Diego Chargers (4-6) The Chargers haven’t beaten a team other than the Chiefs since week 2, when they beat the Titans, who aren’t exactly great either and then before that they beat Oakland. Why would anyone pick them to beat the Ravens? Well, that seems to be the public sentiment this week as the public is pounding Baltimore as small road favorites...

Chargers place LT Gaither on IR

The San Diego Chargers have placed left tackle Jared Gaither on injured reserve, ending an unproductive season for a player expected to shore up a shaky offensive line. Gaither played in only four games this season. He missed almost all of training camp and the first three games with a back injury. He injured his groin late in a loss at New Orleans and played in only two games since...

Ravens hope to beat the Qualcomm Jinx in San Diego...

The Ravens (8-2) fly to San Diego this weekend to play the Chargers in a 4:00 game (EST, Sunday, Nov.25)...and even though the Chargers are 4-6, they are being picked by a lot of media "experts" to beat the Ravens. This is because Baltimore has a history of playing their worst games against San Diego in Qualcomm stadium. Maybe it's the "Curse ofJohnny Unitas...

Chargers OT Jared Gaither Place On IR

Ravens-Chargers Preview

There's no question that the Baltimore Ravens are the better - and hotter - team in Sunday's road matchup with the San Diego Chargers. Still, overconfidence shouldn't be a problem after what transpired last season. With revenge in the back of their minds and star safety Ed Reed available, the Ravens seek a fourth straight win against a Chargers team teetering on the...
