Diamondbacks (63-58) at Pirates (72-50) 1:35 PM–PNC Park, Pittsburgh MLB.com Gameday TV: ROOT Yesterday’s loss wiped out most of the good that Friday’s win did for the Bucs, so now they’re set for an important rubber match game this afternoon with Arizona. The Bucs are looking for their first series win in over a week and they are about to go back on the road for a west coast swing, so taking two here seems fairly crucial. Pregame news: According to his agency, LHP Kris Johnson is being called up from Indianapolis. Nobody else has offiically reported this yet,and it’s two hours to game time as I write this. That said, the move would make some sense. Johnson (as a starter) has been excellent in Indy lately and the Pirates’ bullpen is pretty worn down after a long day yesterday. They also aren’t getting a day off any time soon. Johnson could help out the bullpen by providing some innings. I don’t know who would go down – Bryan Morris could be a candidate – or someone could go on the DL. Today’s starters… Wade Miley (9-8, 3.63) vs. Charlie Morton (4-3, 3.79) Miley is a very solid young lefty and has consistently given Arizona long, quality outings. The Bucco offense has been pretty good this weekend against two mediocre pitchers but they will be tested today. Morton finally has some momentum after two pretty good starts in a row. I thought he was very strong in the series opener St. Louis, when he went seven innings and should’ve gotten a win if the Bucs hadn’t blown it for him. The Bucs need their starters to step it up, and if Morton (previously thought of as the #5 man) can keep delivering, that’ll be a big help.
