Neutralizing the two best players in the world is always a tough task; Crosby had 3 points Saturday. (Clydeorama).
The Washington Capitals will welcome the Pittsburgh Penguins to Verizon Center this afternoon for their traditional Super Bowl Sunday matinee game. Pittsburgh, who won their last game against the Devils 5-1 on Saturday, are 5-3-0 for ten standings points; this places them atop the Atlantic Division and third in the Eastern Conference. The Capitals, who beat the Flyers 3-2 on Friday night for their second win of the season, are 2-5-1 for five standings points; that places them fourth in the Southeast Division and 14th in the Eastern Conference. This is the first of three meetings between these two teams this season, but the only one at Verizon Center.
Marc-Andre Fleury, who made 15 saves in the Penguins’ romp over New Jersey yesterday, seems likely to get the start in goal from head coach Dan Bylsma. Fleury has posted a 2.54 GAA and .897 save percentage so fa...

Penguins look to snap home funk against Devils
With two victories at Madison Square Garden and one each at Philadelphia and Ottawa, the Pittsburgh Penguins might be one of the best road teams in the NHL.
At home, however, things are different. Very different.
The Penguins are the only team in the league to not collect a point at home this season. Pittsburgh is 0-2 at Consol Energy Center and have been outscored 9-3 on their...
Pittsburgh Penguins History: Moe Mantha
He was involved in two of the highest profile trades in Penguins history. What’s more, he’s ranked sixth on the team’s all-time list of highest scoring defensemen. Yet many Steel City hockey fans seem to have all but forgotten Moe Mantha, who arguably was the team’s best blue-liner at the dawn of the Mario Lemieux era.
The son of Moe Mantha, Sr., a minor-league defenseman...
Kunitz's hat trick powers Pens
Chris Kunitz scored a hat trick and Sidney Crosby recorded three assists as the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Washington Capitals 6-3, at the Verizon Center, Sunday afternoon. After the Capitals scored on a fluke goal off the boards in the second period, the Penguins rebounded to score three straight goals within seven minutes of each other, then relied on back up goaltender, and...
Sidney Crosby is a Whiny ***** Who Gets Away With Murder
Sadly, one of the league's best players, Sidney Crosby, has earned the unfortunate reputation of being the league's biggest baby and it was on full display last night...
And don't get me started on the tantrum he threw after Dan Girardi bumped him after the whistle in the second period. Although I did love watching him get so worked up he actually lost his edge...
About Last Night…Kunitz, Pens Veto Washington
Chris Kunitz’s hat trick powered Pittsburgh to a 6-3 win over the Washington Capitals Sunday afternoon. Kris Letang and Matt Cooke also had a goal and an assist each in the win. Evgeni Malkin added a pair of assists.
Washington’s Alex Ovechkin had an assist for just his third point in eight games. John Carlson picked up a total fluke goal when his dump-in went off the glass and...
Penguins dominate Devils; win 5-1
The Pittsburgh Penguins were lackluster in their first two home games of the season, being outscored 9-3 in the process. Today, it was a completely different story as the Penguins defeated the New Jersey Devils 5-1 in dominating fashion. This was truly a game of attrition for the Penguins as they wore down the Devils from start to finish. The Penguins controlled play in the first...
Video: John Carlson scores thanks to a weird bounce off the glass
This might be the easiest goal John Carlson will ever score in his NHL career. Carlson dumped the puck in off the glass, hoping to get the puck in deep so his team could make a line change. Pittsburgh goaltender Tomas Vokoun left his crease, ready to play the puck behind the net only to find the puck had taken an awkward bounce off a stanchion, sending it directly at the now empty...
Devils-Penguins Preview
Dan Bylsma remembers when Consol Energy Center opened a couple years ago and the Pittsburgh Penguins struggled to get comfortable in their fancy new digs.
The Pittsburgh Penguins coach heard the clamoring for the team to pack up and head back across the street to the decidedly antiquated - though plenty intimidating - Igloo. He couldn't miss the chatter about how the "House...
Penguins beat Capitals for third straight win
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- In a Super Bowl Sunday matinee that featured superstars Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Alex Ovechkin, it was Chris Kunitz who stole the spotlight, scoring a hat trick to send the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 6-3 victory over the Washington Capitals. Paul Martin, Matt Cooke and Kris Letang also scored for the Penguins, who are on their first three-game winning...
A House Undefended
Separate and distinct from the scoreboard verdict, there was a disquieting vibe to Super Sunday’s matinee tilt between the Penguins and Capitals. I sat down low in Verizon Center for it, and I didn’t like the vibe at all.
This game is a special tradition on our hockey calendar. While there are a handful of other games this day, Pittsburgh and Washington own Super Bowl Sunday...

"Crosby versus Ovechkin" may no longer have the same luster as it once did, but games against the Capitals are still fun.
