Santiago-casilla-makes
The San Francisco Giants are about to get a major boost to their bullpen.  Santiago Casilla, who has not played since late May will join the team as they take on the San Diego Padres today.  The feeling is that he will come off the DL today as well and be available out of the bullpen. Bochy said Casilla will go to San Diego with team, could be activated tomorrow. #SFGiants — Alex Pavlovic (@AlexPavlovic) July 10, 2013 Manager Bruce Bochy may not just throw Casilla right back into the action, but he will surely be used soon.  San Francisco needs all the help they can get.  While pitching from the relief core is solid, it should get even better with Casilla's return. Casilla had been battling a cyst in his right knee.  Casilla eventually had to undergo surgery to remove the cyst which pushed his timetable for return back.  Now, Casilla is healthy, he's thrown fine in rehab games, and he's ready to rejoin the big league club. Prior to the start of this season, the Giants gave Casilla a three-year, $14 million extension.  It wasn't exactly a ton of money for three years, but it could have been a gamble considering Casilla's age.  The veteran reliever will turn 33 this month.  However, when healthy, Casilla has been impressive lately. This year, Casilla made 21 appearances and has a 1.89 ERA.  Last season, Casilla assumed the closer's role for a short period.  Overall in 2012, Casilla posted a 2.84 ERA and had 24 saves. Reactions To The Francoeur Signing

What do I think of the Giants signing Jeff Francoeur? I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t see it having a major impact.  I was wrong, after all, about Pat Burrell. Francoeur has had a lot of bad years and only one good one over the last half-decade or so.  He’s decent against left-handed pitching only.  He’s got mediocre defense.  I don’t see him catching the Giants magic...

Chad Gaudin charged with lewdness after allegedly groping woman in Las Vegas ER

So, Chad Gaudin had himself quite a night in Vegas earlier this year. The Giants pitcher is charged with open and gross lewdness, a misdemeanor, after he was arrested back in January for allegedly groping a woman in an ER lobby. It’s a story that’s just downright bizarre and creepy. Police say it all went down at 4:30 a.m. at the Desert Springs Hospital three miles off the...

Matt Cain says he's healthy after Giants pull him in first inning

The sight of the bullpen warming up is not something Matt Cain is used to in the first inning of a game, but that's exactly what happened on Wednesday night against the New York Mets. A short time later, following John Buck's two-run single, San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy pulled Cain for Mike Kickham after just 36 pitches. Cain told Tim Kawakami of the San Jose...

Kensuke Tanaka makes spectacular catch in Giants debut

It didn't take long for Kensuke Tanaka to make a big impression during his MLB debut Tuesday night. The San Francisco Giants leftfielder also left a little mark on the left field wall after robbing the New York Mets' Andrew Brown of hit in the second-inning with this spectacular catch. San Francisco Giants Option Mike Kickham To Fresno

The San Francisco Giants have optioned left-handed pitcher Mike Kickham to Triple-A Fresno. The young lefty did not make an appearance during his latest call up back on Tuesday. He rejoins Fresno’s rotation and should get another chance later in the summer to showcase his talents at the big league level. The post San Francisco Giants Option Mike Kickham To Fresno appeared first...

You Mad, Bro? Salami is the Wyrd

Man, from these fans, you’d never know the Giants had won 2 World Series titles in 3 years… From the SB Nation San Francisco Giants blog McCovey Chronicles “I’ve been praying and praying for Jeff Francoeur to save the Giants I’m anticipating a 30 game winning streak starting tonight!” “Mostly, having to do with Jeff Francoeur’s stupidly spelled name. I officially...

San Francisco Giants lose heartbreaker in extra innings

It’s no secret that the San Francisco Giants are in the midst of a brutal slump. The club has only won three out of its last fifteen games. This includes dropping five straight series dating back to June 20th against the lowly Miami Marlins. The rotation has been in shambles all season and now the offense is struggling as well. Other than Buster Posey, the heart of the lineup has...

Division battle by the bay, Oakland vs Giants

Oakland fans have had to wait a long time for days like this. As anyone familiar with Bay Area baseball will surely know, the San Francisco Giants have won two out of the last three World Series Championships. For too long now Oakland fans have seen throngs of new Giants fans delivered by the week, but as Bob Dylan might say the times they are a changing. The Oakland Athletics have...

Giants sign Jeff Francoeur to minor-league contract

It’s come to this for the beleaguered Giants. Signing a player that not even the Kansas City Royals wanted. The Giants and outfielder Jeff Francoeur agreed to a minor-league contract. The team hopes he can give the slumping outfield some kind of boost eventually. Easier said than done. He was DFA’ed by the Royals last month after hitting .208 with 3 homers and 13 RBI in 59 games...

True Torture

Wait, the Giants won? Does that mean we’ve passed Rock Bottom? Actually, I didn’t ask that.  Don’t want to jinx anything.  Sorry, Baseball Gods!

Byrd Slams, Giants Continue to Slide in 10-6 Loss: “It Stinks. Everything Stinks.”

What originally looked like an evenly-matched game escalated quickly as the San Francisco Giants fell once more to the New York Mets 10-6 on Tuesday night. Marlon Byrd knocked any hope of either extra-innings or a Giants win out of the park with a grand slam in the eighth inning. Jeremy Affeldt, whose three earned runs scored on Byrd’s slam, was grasping at straws. “It stinks...
