Found November 07, 2013 on Fightin For Philly:

Following Thursday night’s disappointing 3-0 loss to the New Jersey Devils, the Flyers held a team-only closed door meeting in the team’s locker room. According to forward Wayne Simmonds, two seperate meetings were held: one with just the players, and another with players and coaches. As Flyers writer David Isaac puts it, Flyers captain Claude Giroux and owner Ed Snider had a “pow wow just outside the room.” Philadelphia Inquirer writer Sam Carchidi put it in a less strange way when he described the meeting as a “heart to heart.” Giroux patted Snider on the shoulder before leaving. The Flyers’ captain has now gone 15 games without a goal to start the season — 21 straight going back to last year. The Flyers were shutout at home for back-to-back games as Martin Brodeur managed his 12th career shutout against the Orange and Black. Something needs to change, and fast.

Claude Giroux Involved in Car Accident

Philadelphia Flyers star center Claude Giroux’s car was hit while it was parked. However, according to multiple reports, Giroux was luckily not in the car when the accident occurred on Friday night. The captain is fine, but carries a career-long 21-game goalless drought into tonight’s game with the Edmonton Oilers.

PHOTO: Steve Downie returns to Flyers with ghastly blackeye

During the Philadelphia Flyers-Washington Capitals tilt last Friday, Steve Downie, an agitator of some renown, squared off with Aaron Volpatti in a particularly brutal brawl (video below), at least for Downie. It was Downie’s first game with the Flyers after being traded from the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday, so Downie appeared to show some interest […]The post Steve Downie...

Steve Downie Returns To Hockey With A Rearranged Face After Epic Fight Last Week

During the Philadelphia Flyers-Washington Capitals game on Friday, newly acquired Philly defenseman Steve Downie got into a bit of a tustle with the Caps’ Aaron Volpatti. On the surface, the fight seemed like your everyday run-of-the-mill bout, but Volpatti got one punch in that really did a number on Downie’s face. And here’s a picture from Downie’s return to hockey on...

Fraud Giroux snubs media

Everyone's favorite Philly columnist, Sam Carchidi, he of baton fame, let everyone know that Giroux snubbed the media and bounced from the Wells Fargo Center after the Flyers' 3-0 loss to the Devils. The Flyers are a complete mess right now. The NHL is roughly 5 games from the quarter-pole, and Philly has the worst record in the NHL at 4-10-1. -They are scoring only...

Flyers will continue to shuffle lines

With the same players on the lineup card every night, the Flyers are running out of solutions to the same problems. Too many turnovers. Too few shots. A lot of forced passes. Not enough skating. What’s a coach to do when the same pieces of his puzzle never seem to fit? “I’m trying to find some life and some spark offensively,” Craig Berube said after a practice with new...

Oilers sign Ilya Bryzgalov to 1-year deal

You know you have a goaltending problem when….. The Edmonton Oilers did it. They became ‘that team’ to give ostracized goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov another chance in the NHL despite his horrificly expensive debacle with the Philadelphia Flyers. Making the decision…Read more →The post Edmonton Oilers sign goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov to a 1-year contract appeared first on The Hockey Daily.

Report: Flyers, Oilers in Talks over Jordan Eberle

Flyers insider Tim Panaccio has reported that Philadelphia is discussing acquiring 23-year old right winger Jordan Eberle from the Edmonton Oilers. Eberle was drafted 22nd overall back in 2008, and has established himself as one of the premier playmakers in the league at a young age. In 2011-12, Eberle scored 34 goals and posted 76 points in 78 games. In the lockout-shortened 2012...

Steve Downie is either the Terminator or really needs to get his eye checked out

During last Friday’s Flyers-Capitals game, Philadelphia forward Steve Downie decided to drop the gloves with Aaron Volpatti of the Capitals…a decision he probably regretted soon afterwards. In the bout, Volpatti delivered a solid blow straight to Downie’s left eye, immediately opening a cut and causing some swelling. You can see the blow above, and here’s what Downie’s...

Flyers-Devils Preview

Remember when watching the Flyers was fun? Remember when you couldn’t wait to see how Giroux would impress you, and could actually laugh when there was a #HartnellDown moment? Well, maybe those times are coming back. The Flyers (4-9-1) face off against the New Jersey Devils (3-7-4) tonight at the Wells Fargo Center. Is it too late for the Flyers to right the ship? No, of course...

Mason Stands Tall, Flyers Fall to Canes in OT

[Photo Courtesy of] 14 games into the season, Steve Mason remains the shining star on a lifeless Flyers team that failed to capture a win over a team quarterbacked by an 0-5 backup goalie. 14 games into the season, the Flyers have a dismal 22 goals to their name. 14 games into the season, [...]

Steve Downie has a brutal shiner from Aaron Volpatti fight

Believe it or not, the worst injury from last Friday’s game between the Philadelphia Flyers and Washington Capitals had nothing to do with the line brawl that broke out in the third period. Earlier in the game, Flyers forward Steve Downie dropped the gloves with Capitals forward Aaron Volpatti. The end result was painful for […]

Bill Meltzer: Flyers Gameday: 11/9/13 vs. Edmonton

GAME PREVIEW (5:15 AM EST) Submerged in an offensive abyss that has seen them score a miniscule 1.47 goals per game, something is bound to give when the Philadelphia Flyers (4-10-1) take on the NHL's worst defensive team, the Edmonton Oilers (4-11-2) at the Wells Fargo Center on Saturday afternoon. The Flyers have scored just 22 goals in 15 games, including just two in their...
