The Philadelphia Flyers signed veteran defenseman Hal Gill to a one-year deal the team announced Tuesday. Gill's contract is worth $700000 according to TSN's Bob McKenzie. Gill may be a step slower but the mammoth defenseman brings a lot of experience at an extremely reasonable cost for the cap-crunched Flyers. An invitee on a PTO to Flyers' camp Gill showed he still has enough left in the tank for his 17th NHL season beating out Oliver Lauridsen and NHL veteran Bruno Gervais for a spot. With Gill the Flyers now have eight defensemen on the active roster. The Flyers' D corps looks pretty solid as is but it is already expensive. Having Gill to fill a role where he can drop into the lineup every now and again at such a light cap hit should give Peter Laviolette some flexibility with his lineup. Considering the Flyers goaltending situation is anything but stable having a solid D corps is important. In a limited role Gill makes it a little stronger. As of last night...

Flyers Roster Takes Shape; Hall, Gervais sent to Adirondack

The Flyers 2013-14 roster finally has been set, just minutes before the 5:00 PM deadline set by the NHL. After forward Adam Hall and defenseman Bruno Gervais cleared waivers, the team sent them to their AHL affiliate Adirondack Phantoms. General Manager Paul Holmgren also said that defenseman Chris Pronger would be put on long-term injury reserve before the night was over. Flyers...

Report: Ilya Bryzgalov Close to Signing ECHL Contract With Las Vegas Team

Ilya Bryzgalov may be making his return to the ice, but it won’t be with an NHL team. According to reports, the former Flyers goalie is close to signing a contract with the Las Vegas Wranglers of the East Coast Hockey League. The veteran netminder signed a nine-year, $51 million deal with the Flyers in 2011, but played only two seasons in Philadelphia. The 33-year-old spent the...

Waiving of Hall leaves questions unanswered among the forward group

The Philadelphia Flyers waived Adam Hall on Saturday and he cleared waivers on Sunday. While he has yet to be sent to down to the Phantoms, you can’t help but wonder what is in store for the forward group. It’s entirely possible (probably even likely) that we see additional moves before the season begins, but I seriously scratch my head with this one. Any plan that potentially...

Ilya Bryzgalov close to signing deal with ECHL Las Vegas

Since the Philadelphia Flyers used an amnesty buyout on goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov he's been unable to find a job anywhere to play goal or at least any job that he wanted. That's reportedly about to change. According to TSN's Darren Dreger as well as Stephen Whyno of the Canadian Press Bryzgalov is on the verge of signing a contract with the Las Vegas Wranglers of the...

Final Roster Set for Opening Night (Almost)

The team had to have a roster set by 5:00 pm today, September 30. Those not on the roster include: Adam Hall (forward) and Bruno Gervais (defenseman), who have both been loaned to the Flyers AHL afiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms...

Rumor: Ilya Bryzgalov to sign with ECHL team in Vegas?

This is something that needs to be filed under "too good to be true," so it probably is. Nevertheless, it is from Darren Dreger, so it has to be worth discussing, right? Working on confirming or debunking, but, word in Philly is Bryzgalov is about to sign an East Coast Hockey League contract in Las Vegas. — Darren Dreger (@DarrenDreger) October 3, 2013 Right or...

Philadelphia Flyers: roster to be set by 5 p.m.

By David Strehle (@David_Strehle) It has been an interesting preseason for the Philadelphia Flyers, and GM Paul Holmgren will have his work cut out for him to get his team’s 23-man opening night roster set as the 5:00 p.m. deadline rapidly approaches. The Flyers are just under $1.25 million over the salary cap, and moves will be coming today for the club to have their roster in...

Tim Panaccio: Moving Bodies Around to Save $$

Well, the trade we all thought was coming with the Flyers to help them shed a defenseman and get under the salary cap never materialized. Instead the Flyers simply moved a couple players -Adam Hall and Bruno Gervais - to the Phantoms via waivers, then put Chris Pronger on LTIR to retrieve $4.9 million in cap space and get under the cap. The roster they turned into the NHL today...
