Martin Truex looked to be on his way to his first win with Michael Waltrip Racing and his first-career win since 2007 in the AdvoCare 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sunday night after taking the lead from Denny Hamlin with 44 laps to go. But it wasn’t to be. The yellow flag waved with five laps to go, setting the race up for a green-white-checker, two-lap sprint to the finish. All lead lap cars headed down pit road for fresh tires, and Hamlin was able to beat Truex out of the pits to restart first for the two-lap dash to the finish. Hamlin held the top spot the final two circuits to claim his fourth fourth win of 2012 and his first-career victory at Atlanta. “This is one I wanted real bad,” Hamlin said. “I’ve been really good here the last few years and not won one.” Truex, at the front of the outside line on the final restart, lost spots to Jeff Gordon and Brad Keselowski in the final laps to finish fourth. “All night long I had trouble on the outsid...
