I’m sure Garrett Atkins received a lot of nice things for his 30th birthday on Saturday, but a new contract from the Colorado Rockies was not among them. The Rockies informed Atkins,  just as he was sitting down to enjoy a little cake and ice cream, that they had elected to decline offering him a 2010 contract, officially ending his ten year run with the organization and a six year run with the major league team. Yes, that’s correct, they canned an organization mainstay and one time franchise cornerstone on his milestone 30th  birthday.  That has to rate pretty highly on the heartless scale, doesn’t it? The Rockies have known since June that Atkins wouldn’t be in their plans next season.  They obviously couldn’t...
