Shaq, Dwight Howard, and Tim Tebow all have been given the nickname Superman. Long before those guys were around, an incredible specimen of a man was named Superman. That man is Herschel Walker.

Herschel Walker was a man among boys even when he was running over All-American Seniors as a true Freshman at the University of Georgia.

When I said he was the real Superman, I wasn't joking. In 1982, Walker was jogging one morning and came upon a car accident. A 67-year old lady was trapped in her car while it was smoking.

Herschel tore the car door open, then helped the scared lady out. " He just ripped the door open, glass shattered everywhere," said Ted Shanks, a witness. I guess he just flew off to class after all of that.

Even though Ron Dayne holds the career record for rushing yards in college football with 6,397 and 63 touchdowns, Herschel Walker rushed for 5,259 yards with 49 TDs in just three seasons.

In 1982, Walker won the Heisman Trophy and held the world record, briefly, in the 60-yard dash with a 6.15 time. The same day, Carl Lewis would break that very record.

Carl Lewis is a skinny sprinter while Herschel still did it in a 6'1, 225 lb. body. When he joined the New Jersey Generals, Walker made a name for a whole league all by himself. He had 25,283 yards combined between the USFL and the NFL. This is the most all-purpose yards in the history of professional football.

Walker not only created a league by himself, he created a future for the Dallas Cowboys in the 1990s with his value in the "Herschel Walker Trade." In 1994, Walker was the first NFL player to record a 90-yard TDs in three different ways-- rushing, kickoff returning, and receiving.

Walker is an all-around athlete. In the 1992 Winter Olympics, he won a bronze medal with a 4:03.95 time in the two man bobsled completion. At age 49, he stepped into the MMA ring where he won his first two fights. He's also a black belt in Jiu-Jitsu.

Herschel is superhuman! At the age of 50, he does 1,000 push-ups and 2,000 sit-ups per day and can run a 40-yard dash in 4.35. Walker has been on the front cover of Sports Illustrated 9 different times. I wonder if Carl Lewis, Michael Phelps, Bo Jackson, or Michael Jordan could do all of this?

Sweetheart's Stuff Re:Superman!

Well, well, well, before there was "Dancing with the stars," there was "Ballet with Herschel". (Guess you accidently left this part out, Stuart.) You're not the only one with research skills. And according to mine, Herschel was born in Georgia and had a speech impediment. It's beyond me how anyone in Georgia could possibly come to this conclusion. Don't most people from Georgia have a speech impediment? Now, ya'll from the south don't go gettin' mad at me...

Moving right along to your awesome Georgia Bulldogs team. If not for Herschel, Georgia wouldn't had won a National Championship in 1980. That makes two championships for Georgia in 40 years! According to my calendar, they're due for another in the year 2020. Get your DVR ready, Stuart.

In 1983, he left Georgia (perhaps on that same train he used to run beside as a child), to play for the New Jersey Generals. I realize my knowledge of football is limited, but aren't the New Jersey Generals an insurance company? After he was trumped by the Donald, he played for Dallas, Minnesota, Philadelphia, blah, blah, blah.

Mr. Herschel saves lives from burning vehicles and sleds with some dude named Bob. He's got a black belt, a bronze medal, and a cape! I would love to have his closet. This guy is awesome.

My only question: Is there anything he can't do?

Sincerely,
Sweetheart
