In an absolutely shocking turn of events the Rangers were able to get rid of an albatross contract in Scott Gomez, along with a prospect who has a 4th line center ceiling, and a defensive prospect who will likely never play in the NHL for Chris Higgins, a strong 3rd line forward, and 2 very strong defensive prospects, the key one being McDonagh. How Glen Sather was able to pull this one off is anyones guess, but it bolsters what I have been saying for a very long time now. Glen Sather is one of the best “trading” GM’s in the business. He always seems to win more trades than he loses, and he never seems to give up important youth in the process. Frankly I would have taken Higgins straight up for Gomez, and enjoy the likely 5+ million dollars in salary cap relief it brings us, but to also get a true bluechip prospect like McDonagh, well that is just jawdropping.
